For those who may have missed it, the Hangar10/Air Fighter Academy Bf-109G-6 (D-FMGS), that was completed by MeierMotors a couple years ago, also made its first test flight last week (with a few more flights since).
There are a number of photos on their FB page.
Thanks for the HU and links John.
Has it been confirmed/established if the Hangar 10/Air Fighter Academy ‘G-14’ is actually the ex Richard Lake/Spitfire Limited Buchon G-AWHE, as has been suggested?
Cheers

Very nice!
Always good to have another Buchon in the air.
Well done to all at Air Leasing and all those involved with the overhaul.

Very nice!
Thanks John and scotavia for the links to the pics.
Another FL participant perhaps?
(Fingers crossed!)

I really do like the two seat Buchon!
Looking forward to seeing it at this years FL.

I wonder if G-SHWN is possibly in the process of getting a more ‘stock’ P-51 cockpit?
I notice from the above pictures, the main panel is now black, and the Garmin glass cockpit unit that had been fitted in the center is no longer there.
Lovely pics as usual! 🙂

Such a shame.
But at least Arthur Dovey and no one else were injured.
This and the ex TFC machine (now with Planes of Fame) are my favourites of the new build Yak 3s.
Hopefully we’ll see it back in the skies again soon!

I got the impression that the RAF didn’t do anything in the nineteen-thirties or nineteen-fifties. Wasn’t impressed at all.
Indeed!
Whilst it was a nice program celebrating 100 years of the RAF, I had expected it to be at least a two part programme.
Still I guess you could argue at least the BBC bothered to make such a programme!

James,
If you have satellite, It’s often shown on TCM.
I think it was either last year or the year before that they were showing it on a regular basis, so it might well crop up again.
I note it’s available on DVD from these sites: –

You might well find some copies on ebay as well.

Fantastic news!
A big tip of the hat to all involved in the overhaul.
It’s been awhile, but it will be nice to see it gracing the skies above Old Warden (and hopefully Duxford) again.

I’m wondering how far the restoration of NGNG went? Does it have much in the way of original equipment? (Armour plate, guns etc?)
Oxcart,
As far as I recall, ‘NGNG’ didn’t have any of the original equipment, armour, guns etc, plus the turbocharger was removed, unlike ‘SNAFU’.
So from a pilots point of view, I guess it would nicer in the display environment because of the lower AUW, compared to if it were partially or totally ‘stock’, and fitted with the above items.
Also, as can be seen on the Courtesy Aircraft sale page, the cockpit was not fitted out authentically/stock, and had modern radios/nav aids fitted on the main panel.
I recall in an article on flying ‘SNAFU’ by Pete Kynsey, and he mentioned the fact that it was easier to three point ‘SNAFU’ because it had all the turbocharger gear (albeit non functioning) and other items of military equipment fitted, therefore putting the center of gravity further aft than on ‘NGNG’.

Well Propstrike, once we are finally ‘out’ of the EU ……..
However a few months ago, there was talk that the PM and her team of ‘negotiators’ were strongly considering the UK remain a member of EASA after we have ‘left’ the ‘Fourth Reich’, so I don’t hold my hopes up for us being able to change anything!
That said, I think the UK GA aviation population and also historic aviation enthusiasts should start putting pressure on our Government to reconsider their position on EASA, and make sure we will be no part of it when (and if) we do leave the EU completely!

It’s the correct red this time around, I’ve made sure of that! All will be revealed once we have applied the rest of the markings and re-covered the flying controls. You’ll all just have to wait and see. The civvy reg was for the ferry flight only but certainly got the Paparazzi excited. There will be other minor detailed alterations as well to improve its look still further, just be patient.
Roobarb
Looking very nice so far Roobarb!
Whilst you mention the minor detailed alterations, are there any plans to refit the full span ailerons, as per PL344?
And how about some 10.25 inch wheels too!
I know the engineering folk seem to prefer the 12 inch wheels and brakes, but I always think the former look better on the IX!
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the finished result!

I just took a look at the Lancaster III Pilots Notes dated June 1943, and there is no mention of a carb heat control in them!
Oh hang on a minute, I see a handwritten note – ‘Air Intake, Cold’ and note it is referred to as ‘Air-intake heat control’.
