I’m curious what else will the big hangar be used for as once Pa474 is fixed it will be another 5 years before she goes back?

    The Chinese Stirling?

I see on the BBC today that the CAA are insisting that airshow organisers abide by the new rules laid out by them for this year’s season.

    Statement from the CAA: –

Will be interesting to see how this fiasco pans out!

I’m aware of that Mike, but as there was no accident at Southport involving the Jet Provost but a ‘close call’ (or ‘incident’ according to Sussex Police) as was suggested at the time, it would be the responsibility of the CAA to look into it.

That is of course if it was reported to them, or came to their attention.

    Umm..

I don’t quite understand the link between the two.

Perhaps if the same aircraft and pilot were involved, but even then (as others have said), I’m not sure why the Police would need to investigate, separately, or as part of their inquiry into the Shoreham crash.

(I don’t recall any action/investigation taken by the CAA over the Jet Provost ‘incident’ at Southport).

Maybe they should put these resources into fighting crime, as opposed to taking over the job of the CAA.

in reply to: Two-seater Buchon – in the UK…. #863805

I think everybody within this forum knows that the RR is turning the same way as the DB. The problem is that the first 65 fuselages were prepared for the HS engine. The last 175 for the RR engine. So the chance is not too small to create a beast if you install the wrong engine. For example the converted 2-seater were originally built as Nr.40 and 199.So one of them should have been a little bit “uncomfortable”. Even the G12 replica which is actually under construction had the wrong profile, which is now corrected.

Which always makes me wonder why the fin offset was never corrected on those first 65 airframes when the Merlin was installed, and then why the owners/operators of Buchons that had the offset wrong, didn’t correct them!

So, with that said, all of the reports I’ve read on flying the Buchon (or one fitted with a DB engine), never mentioned this issue, or it being a problem with the handling (assuming of course the aircraft in the report had the offset the wrong way).

Anyway, good to see the two seat example being taken care of by Air Leasing.

Caught a glimpse of Farnborough based Chipmunk G-BXDH, heading north east at about twenty five to two.

Still up and about according to Flight Radar.

Is that one Merlin powered?? sounded like it.

    Nope, Allison.

Good to see it back in the air.

Hopefully we’ll get a ‘Kermie Cam’ of it in the future!

Nearest the camera is MK.XIV SM832, now with Comanche Warbirds in the USA.

The tail belongs to MK.XVI TD248, now with Spitfire Ltd, and based at Humberside Airport, and sometimes Duxford.

The photo was probably taken in the mid to late 90’s, or in the early millennium.

Sorry Bradburger it was my mistake, I hadn’t read your post properly. I can only put it down to brain fade.

    No worries Sopwith.

I thought for a minute I had brain fade, thinking I may have imagined the January 14th date in the ad!

Bradburger , January Flypast is out now you’ll find.

    Sorry if I wasn’t clear!

I meant the January edition of Flypast has an advert for Aeroplane Monthly (it’s on the opposite page to the start of the A-26 Invader article), and it says in the ad that the December edition is out now, and that the January edition of Aeroplane is out on the 14th of January 2016!

On sale in the UK – Dec 10th

Hence the  in my previous post!

Well, that’s what it says in the last edition, however, I note in the January issue of FlyPast, and advert for it says the January edition is out on er, January 14th!
