Many thanks for posting this Mark.
Like many, I too will be sad to see the Sabre leave the UK.
I just hope those in the US who see it will like and appreciate it as much as we did!
Thanks to all at Golden Apple and those involved with it’s operation over the years for their efforts in keeping it flying.
Cheers

can someone inform me as to why PS 915 is in pieces on the back of a truck??
In for a major overhaul with ARC I assume.

Oh Dear!
Such a shame.
But at least the occupants got out ok.

Gosh, was it really 15 years ago. 🙁

Hopefully those who posted at the time that the accident was a result of ‘Poor Airmanship’, will think again about their comments, and actually appreciate the skills and concentration required to fly such a machine!

That’s good to hear. 🙂
Looks very nice too!

…and acquired a Merlin engine. 🙂
Indeed. And a rather short port wing!
Looks very badly done – hopefully a mock or ‘concept’ front cover?
That said, given Haynes previous books on the Spitfire and other types, you thought they’d at least know who to ask, and give an opinion and feedback on this kind of thing!
Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this one.

That’s good news Dunbar.
I better start saving!
At the critical landing phase the rear ‘passenger’ is required keep their feet clear of the pedals, their legs clear of the column, their right knee clear of the under carriage selector, so not to impede full articulation of the controls. So you end up sitting slightly bow legged, hands well back and your feet resting on the central longitudinal structure. Sounds fine but I remember on one occasion in the US I was wearing a pair of shoes with a very chunky sole pattern, when over the R/T on finals came the words:- “Peter, your jamming the elevator control”. 🙂

Whilst watching this video the other day taken by a passenger in the rear cockpit of MH367, I note that it appears to have had a floor made (seen at approx 1:55).
I can’t seem to see the usual throttle and quadrant, but then maybe it’s the large silver lever on the lower left, which looks like it is in some sort of quadrant, but if it is, there is no sign of a prop pitch lever?
And I can’t see a U/C lever either!

Paul, many thanks for that recommendation. The book has arrived, and it is a stunningly comprehensive resource. Not cheap–$50 from Amazon–but worth many times that amount.
Glad you are impressed by it Stephan!
As you say, it’s a great resource for those interested in not only the flying qualities and handling of these fighters, but also in their systems, performance, and their construction.
Whilst these days copies of the manuals and wartime test reports are easier to find and readily available on the internet, it’s worth remembering that when this book was first published, that wasn’t the case!
I just hope that it has some useful info on the P-61 for you! (I must admit, that’s the one aircraft in the book that I haven’t read so much!) 😮

It might not yield all the data you require for your project, but if you can get hold of the excellent, ‘America’s Hundred Thousand‘ by Francis H.Dean, you’ll find a lot of good, factual info and technchal data in there regarding it’s performance, handling, systems, and what it’s pilot’s thought of it as a combat aeroplane.
Good luck!

Does anyone know what was wrong with the Hellcat?
It departed Shoreham and headed direct to Duxford with technical problems.
A fuel leak it would seem.
Wasn’t at the show, but was watching it live on Planes TV and had the airband tuned to Shoreham tower.
Brian Smith in the Corsair spotted the issue, but it seemed to sort itself out (the escaping fuel stopped) and Alan Wade, after flying around for a bit, decided to head for home.
Glad to see it arrived safely at Duxford, and glad that the Spitfire Ltd Buchon got the gear issue sorted.
Nice pictures as usual Brian. 🙂

Very nice Daz.
I bet he was rather chuffed!

OFMC duo earlier, and BBMF and Canadian Lanc heading to Overton again, this time a little bit closer! 🙂

MH434 went off just after I posted from FR, Canadian Lanc did not show up for me earlier apart from a blip while on the ground at Southend.
Ah, that explains it!
I couldn’t see the Canadian Lanc earlier either!
I note that when it was displaying at Eastbourne last weekend, the tracking seemed to be rather erratic!
