No, it was originally going to be Phil Shaw but he has had to pull out. The man flying SX336 in my shots is the man who flew me to North Weald, and the same man who flew her again today – John Beattie. He will be flying the aircraft at Old Warden on Sunday……possibly with one OW resident and two others that may possibly be linked with him….. 😉
Thanks Lee.
I really did enjoy Phil Shaw’s Harvard display at Dunsfold last year.
And like Stringbag, I’ve enjoyed John Beattie’s displays in the Skyraider at OW and Legends. 😀 I have them on Video – just haven’t got round to editing them for upload yet. 😮
Hopefully after Sunday, I’ll have the Seafire to add to the list! 🙂

Yes she will. That is the plan, runway and weather permitting.
Mark
….and pilot-permitting, of course! 😀
The plan is to have her on static in the morning ,wings folded. Then displaying in the afternoon (wings spread!! 😀 😀 ).
PS Nice to meet you Lee and great snaps mate.
Great stuff!
I kind of guessed it might be the plan after reading Lee’s “Not unless Biggin has moved to Bedfordshire” and took it to mean that it can’t be in two places at once. 🙂
Btw, on the subject of the pilot, I understand Phil Shaw has been assigned as the lucky chap for this season.
Was that him flying the Seafire today?
Cheers
Paul
Superb shots Lee. 😀
Really look forward to seeing this beauty in the flesh! 🙂
Now, all I need to know is will she be landing at OW?
It would be nice to see her close up on the ground! 😎

Ahh, never thought about the Breitling Fighters!
Oh well, I stand corrected! Cheers, Paul 😉
No probs Daz.
I tend to forget that the Buchon was part of the early BF set up too! 😮
Real shame that it, along with Mark Hanna wasn’t part of it for longer. 🙁

Breitling Fighters!
I’ve never heard of anyone but Mark Hanna flying the OFMC Buchon. Also, going by the info from the OFMC website, and the Key publication “Luftwaffe Eagles”, the OFMC Buchon was out of action from late 1993 onwards following a wheels-up landing until, what, 1998? That was when I first encountered it, in the hangars at DX, either still being worked on or nearing the end of its rebuild. Nigel Lamb didn’t join the OFMC until 1993, so doubt he flew it – unless someone can confirm that he did?
Daz, your are correct, the OFMC example was out of commision from 1993 to 1998.
But I believe Nigel Lamb flew the OFMC example during the BF’s period, as one of the Legends videos (99 I think) shows it doing a go round after the ‘Balbo’ and says that the pilot was him.
I’m sure I’ve seen some pics also of him in the cockpit too.
I remember watching Hanna Snr doing a stunning display in it just after they aquired it, at the 1988 Fighter Meet. Shame he never flew it after the rebuild (or did he)?
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to seeing the RAC machine at (fingers crossed) Legends. 😀

A post on a certain ‘Rumour Network ‘ intimates that I-BILL, owned by Ormond Haydon Ballie was lost in Germany in 1977 when it too lost its canopy.
I have not heard this before, but other contributions on this forum have suggested a torque-roll was the cause. Anyone remember?
Whilst never hearing an official cause of the accident, I did read somewhere that it might have been due to a Clog worn by the female passenger in the back coming off during the display & nothing about the canopy causing it though!
How true the fromer was I don’t know, and if someone has the correct reason/cause of the I-BILL crash, then please let us know

Thanks for the info & updates everyone.
A bit puzzled by the reports of the pilot calling the owner and then booking the next flight home, as the owner and normal pilot of BBD, Rob Davies appears to be in that last picture!
At least it seems nobody was hurt or killed and BBD made it to Berlin, so I guess it all ended rather happily.
I assume BBD sustained no damage from the incident either?

On the subject of 336, now that the flight testing has been completed successfully, a full permit to fly should soon be issued. If this is provided in time, her public debut should be at Shuttleworth on 4 June.
Great news ET! 🙂
Hopefully should be going, so fingers crossed that everything with 336 is ok on the day.

Stange.

Congrats to all at Kennet.
Great job! 🙂
And thanks to Damien & Al for posting the shots of the first flight.
Very nice!
And of course Easy Tiger for keeping us updated with news and photos of the restoration for the past few months 😀
Now (enters dream mode) how nice would it be to see this and the Crystal Lakes wonderful 47 in the same piece of sky! 😎
