Looks like it was a good day at Abingdon Flightline.

    Enjoyed your pictures. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Spit finished holding about 1.50pm to run in for the flypast at Tilford.

After that, I guess the Dak and Spit headed off to Abingdon.

    Cheers

    No probs Mike.

I’m glad someone has bought it to our attention again. ๐Ÿ™‚

Should be a good show and as you say, it will be good to get some life at this histroic airfield going again.

Just had P7350 hold over sunny Haslemere and surrouding area for 5 minutes or so holding for it’s Flypasts at the Tilford Rural Life Centre and an event at Farnham. ๐Ÿ˜€

Amazing how half the street comes out when they hear the sound of a Merlin! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll keep an eye open for Mr Clarkson. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I’m suprised I’ve not bumped in to him before as apparently he’s been known to stay here in Haslemere whilst filming Top Gear!

Good point about the AH stuff.

I wonder what else they have down there?

I heard about the Dak but didn’t know they moved other stuff as well.

    Mike,

I already mentioned this event here a while back hoping to find out who’s Spit was doing the Flypast!

    http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=25238

I’m not sure what the static planes are going to be (maybe someone here knows) but it would be nice if TFC’s B25 (ex??!!) could be there as the RAF flew these from Dunsfold around the time of the invasion.

Actually, it’s lucky that anyone knows about this event at all as Waverley council seemed to enjoy ripping down the posters. ๐Ÿ˜ก

Btw, BBMF Spitfire and Dakota are going to be in the ‘area’ tommorow (actually I should say Today!) to do a Flypast at Tilford for an event at the Rural Life Centre:

This Should Be A Beer Debate!

I must admit, I do like a pint of Spitfire now & again. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I like the adverstising campaign.

I was hoping they would continue with naming beers after WWII planes.

I quite like the idea of a pint of ‘Thunderbolt’ or ‘Typhoon’.

As for Adnams Broadside, that is a lovely beer too.

But I must admit no Fokker comes close to a pint of Ringwood Old Thumper! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, I’m Off down the pub now! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Cheers

    Paul

P.S aren’t we lucky to have so many decent beers!

    Damm shame. ๐Ÿ™

At least no one was hurt and hopefully the damage isn’t to extensive and she’ll return to the air sometime in the future.

Having not been aware of the Firefly’s sequence at the time of the crash and watching the footage, I assumed the next part in the sequence would be a right wingover at the top of the climb so as to position back towards the airfield.

However this wasn’t the case and TempustNut describes the fatal manoeuvre more or less as I saw it. One thing that did strike me was that there seemed to be some hesitation on the pilotโ€™s part prior to initiating the roll at the apex of the climb.

A few months later, I saw longer footage of the Fireflyโ€™s sequence on the Biggin DVD and I was surprised at how much height was lost during the Derry Turns, compared to how I’ve seen the manoeuvre flown in the past. In all the instances I’ve seen, energy and height are maintained throughout the manoeuvre with no hint of the nose coming down as the roll is started.

And this is always what I understood the manoeuvre to be – a three quarter roll so as to reverse your direction for a turn the opposite way e.g. you three quarter roll left so you can now turn right to position yourself for whatever the next manoeuvre in your sequence is.

Btw, the latest edition of Pilot magazine has an A-Z of Aviation terms and this is how it describes the Derry Turn:

“A manoeuvre in which a tight (e.g. left) turn is reversed by rolling (left) and under, effectively reversing the direction of the initial turn.”

Maybe some of the display pilots that post here can clarify this.

    I’d go for 434.

Not a MKVIII as it has a fixed tailwheel.

    Don’t know where though.

Thanks for that Alan & Mark . ๐Ÿ™‚

She seems to go like the clappers even though she sounded throttled back in those clips! ๐Ÿ˜€

Mr Ezell really should bring her over here for Legends. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Some interesting points Paul.

No matter how good or experienced a pilot you are, I believe you cannot be 100% all the time.

It will be interesting to see what the changes are and if they are just for the military or civilian display pilots.

Lets hope this season is safe one.

    Many thanks for that Daz.

It looks as if it’s going to be even better than expected. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m really pleased that they have spruced up the soundtrack and given it the 5.1 treatment and added the option of having Waltons score.

And it looks as if this will be the best version in terms of visual quality too. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Roll on release date!

    Cheers
