This is your best option. If you look at the accessories you will see it can be made “hand held” to a limited extent.

My MCR01 P/W ratio is .60 (100 hp 490kg)

Hi BlueRobin
“It’s all JAR-come-EASA now, CS23 covers MTOM <5700KG, CS25 >5700KG MTOM. Both cats are roughly equal to the American FAR23/FAR25 regs.
If Britain wants it, I guess they must get Europe to want it also?”
NO
The proposals to introduce an Experimental category in the UK to allow experimental prototypes and experimental modifications to be flown (for test purposes only, and without passengers) without the burden of an airworthiness investigation. This follows the widely-reported paper on the decline in the UK light aircraft industry which was produced last year by the General Aviation Group of the Royal Aeronautical Society, which cited over-regulation as one reason for the decline. It is hoped that introducing such a category might allow the UK to compete more effectively with other countries where light aircraft manufacturing is booming.

This is correct, it was advertised as such in the PFA mag

You can get a new Eurostar for around £50k, which compares quite well with a quality sports car built in similar volume. Unfair to compare aircraft designed in the 40’s and 50’s as such machines were not designed to be built by modern methods.

“many PFA builders are specifying Dynon EFIS”
Not just the Dynon, I have a combined PC Flight Systems / Stratomaster set-up. However being PFA we are strictly VFR of course. Speaking as someone who was trained on the classic set-up and now uses a hybrid system with a glass panel HSI, I find the glass is much better, but the base skill is the same.

If you decide on East Mids let me know and I will pop over and say hello. I have no experience of the flying clubs but Donair has a good reputation.

(I am 25 min away and fly an MCR01. I also visit France regularly)
According to some theoretical research carried out by the PFA the hand held unit concept is flawed for several reasons.
1 The detectable range is likely to be very low.
2 The occupants of the aircraft are likely to be exposed to above the EU health and safety levels of radiation.
3 the unit as specified will not meet international standards so would only be of use in the UK.
4 The unit does not yet exist in a completed form and no firm costs are available.
The French have issued exemptions to almost all its GA fleet, and the CAA have announced a second consultation and are in negotiation with the various GA groups on a compromise after less than 1% of the people who responded to the last consultation were in favour. I would strongly recommend that you wait, or buy a second hand mode a/c, which can be obtained for <£200 if you have to have something.

PS some people have got the microair to work…..
Low’N’Slow
“Trouble is, since then a lot of PFA folk have built ‘plastic fantastic’ aeroplanes with teeny little wheels and the need for half a mile of tarmac – which Sywell currently lacks.”
Two of the most popular ‘plastic fantastic’ aircraft are the MCR01 and the Europa, both of which are regular visitors at Sywell. There are ‘plastic fantastic’ aircraft such as the MCR01M Bush aircraft, which will outperform the vintage stuff in all departments.

I too have marketing expertise and have helped the PFA out on a number of occasions. I can state absolutely that no marketing plan that you or I would recognise existed for this year’s event.
