Too late for the Red Lion. There is a Travelodge 3 miles away.

In Waremme, Belgium in September 2003 a memorial was unveiled to 609 Squadron (some link with Jean de Selys Longchamps).

A 609 pilot, Mike Shelton, is having a memorial unveiled in his honour in northern France on the 29th February by Joss Leclerq, who has done, I think, 3 others so far.

Abnother 609 pilot, Francois de Spirlet will have a memorial bench unveiled to him on 11th July at 9am at the Red Lion at Whittlesford.

There are more unveiled every year, and it is very pleasing to be able to add to them.

And thank you Carolyn. It is always a pleasure to watch you fly, and it is a treasured TV moment for me watching you hand over control to Mr Brothers. Thank you for making your aircraft available in that way.

I’m no sour faced misery. I just have 2 people I think of on St Valentine’s day for different reasons to most.

My wife was working, so my daughter and I went out, washed the memorial and visited John’s sister.

I went off the romantic side of Valentines when I was at school – how much fun it is to come home with no cards and feeling like an ugly duckling. But wait, there IS a card for me! I am loved! Thanks mum.

Now i’ll be sour faced – you can take valentines commercialism and self confidence erasing bull**** and stick it up your arse.

The poppies from Remembrance Sunday are still there, and the flowers were left this morning by someone not known to me or John’s sister. It was very pleasing to see that somebdoy had made the effort to pay their respects.

Funnily enough, when my wife chose to go Commando, I decided it was time for a Wankel.

Cheers Steve. Local council would also benefit from an email!

Just done my first reformat / reinstallation of Windows 2000. Not difficult at all. However, it took me ages (and phone calls to friends!) to reconfigure my internet connection and outlook express. That was the only problem. It’s running lovely now, and when I finish downloading the programs and drivers that I should have, and burnt them to CD, i’m going to do it all again to get it totally clean (ie no failed installations or putting in drivers that don’t work etc).
