Indeed – Duncan was very good at what he did, and the power of his pgotos – especially through having the same subjects is immense.

The shot of the loyalist soldier is a superb image – real or fake I neither know nor care. It portrays the death of a soldier, and portryas it superbly. His Omaha beach stuff has a quality all of its own – yet how would they have looked normally? His photos in requiem, and in some of the other books i’ve seen on him, I never felt were of a standard to make me go ‘wow’. Standard fare in special circumstances.

Is this any way to welcome someone? By taking the pi5s out of an honest question?

Who says he is after anything that grand? Perhaps an Auster or something at the lower end of the scale is more what he had in mind.

Never found Capa to be anything amazing personally. I think Capa made his name on subject and content rather than what he made of it – same with page to a degree, that and his reputation that fitted so well with the 60’s era.
