    Hmm. Cheers for that Damien.

I did fine with it on the D30, at 500, and have had stuff published from it at the long end too – perhaps I got lucky? Thats with EOS 5’s, and either Velvia or E100VS. have only just got it back from Sigma, so haven’t used it on the 10D yet (no time). Perhaps I may wander down the beach on Thursday or Friday in my break. (I have MANY breaks on airshow days!).

Ready to go indeed. The batteries will be flat.

Of course, this is actually incredibly plausible – aircraft were assembled underground throughout the Reich. I do, however, think old Uncle Joe would have had all the bits and pieces hauled home for recycling / re-use rather than buried though. But there is definately stuff underground through, say, bombing raids closing tunnels.

The Damned are a lovely bunch. Especially Sensible. Mind you, especially Monty and Pinch Too. And Patricia. Vanian is always disappearing. Met them a few times. Met the Stranglers (current line-up) Jake from Stiff Little Fingers, Dead Kennedys current line up, and then some..

Some minor TV people (not in THEIR opinion), Izzard and Pasquale (Izzard made me feel incredibly uneasy as soon as he walked into my shop – I didn’t recognise him, but he made my skin, literally, crawl. Funny that), some baseball ‘stars’, bound to be some more.

Brigadier General Sir Peter de la Billiere, ‘Cheval’ Lallemand, ‘Pinkie’ Stark, Bee Beamont, ‘Stapme’ Stapleton, ‘Mike’ Donnet, and a bunch of other wartime pilots who I think are famous, or who were. Oh, and Carolyn Grace more than a few times. Amongst others.

Photographed (like, properly and all that, iwth payment to me etc) the Pope, Prince Charles, and probably some others.

Oh yes, Tim Page, the great Vietnam War Photographer, and Bob Carlos Clarke – I reccomend Google-ising him, I can’t really pigeonhole his photography, but it’s great. I think that’s it on the photographers.

Geoff Capes. He was the first ‘star’ I met. He made me cry. Second. First was a Dalek. Yeah. The Dalek rocked.

Umm, I may think of some more later. I might repost.

Eh? Superior to the 170-500? How so?

Thats got my ears pricked up! Just interested as I have the 170-500 (rechipped at last!) that I got in ’96, it’s a 500 5.6 in canon (6.3 in other fittings).

The only time I tried the 50-500 I found it extremely heavy, cumbersome, difficult to handhold, and i lost the lenshood (it was a borrowed lens too). I found my 170-500 images that I usually took to be sharper. Now, optically speaking, a test bench may show the 50-500 to be the superior lens, but with the better hand-holdability, in practice (for me) the 170-500 produced better results. Of course, the 50-500 hadn’t come out when I bought mine, but I think I would still have chosen the same out of the two now due to size, weight and compactness. I would reccomend it, but am now unsure!!! Perhaps it’s time I tried one again. Put me out of my misery old boy!

    Ahem. (Didn’t know that!).

Yeah, but they don’t stick out looking scary, do they?

And yes, they hold good company – but their is always a fat ugly dog amongst the bunch of gorgeous girls in real life too – to make the others look more gorgeous.
