RE: Images of War
“1. To be in breech of copyright, you must have copied at least 10% of the entire book, this quallifies the owner to sue for misuse and claim loyalties for which they are entitled to.”
Wrong. You must have copied one image, or part of text. To photocopy more than 10% of a book for private use, then you are correct. You have, by the nature of putting something you have copied into a public place, broken the law. I suggest that you consult the 1988 Patents, Designs and copyrights act.
“2. As the pics are very common, one could say that they came from anywhere, they are freely available on the net as well as the book I got them from, so copyright doesn’t really apply here.”
Wrong. You copied them from a book. Apart from breeching the copyrights of the author / publisher, you have also breached Crown Copyright on some of these. That’s sounds like treason you fifth columnist you. Amount of times published does not remove copyright from the copyright holder. I suggest that you consult the 1988 Patents, Designs and copyrights act.
And before anyone jumps in with the 50 year rule, the images have come from a book – so we have infringement there if not on the originating photographer. Tricky subject. Thats why Boots get sued so often. Take it from a photographer who was threatened with being sued on monday for something that the act showed me to be in the right about all along.
RE: One Hundred years – Five Aircraft
The Sex Pistols are the greatest rock n roll band on the planet. Give him Des O’Connor.
And another 5 Typhooons for the ressurection.
RE: One Hundred years – Five Aircraft
5 Hawker Typhoons.
Sorry. I have a thing about them.
RE: Another two for the log book…
I remember that runway. I ran around the ##### in “Boots, Hi-leg Infantry for the crippling of” a few times. I did my basic there, and as I recall there were still a lot of old buildings on site. Hangars and stuff. The training scenes from Full Metal Jacket were filmed at Bassingbourn too. Apart from the running, I got repeatedly gassed and regularly drunk too. Good memories. Except for the runway.
RE: Gun camera

RE: Which WWII aviator/aviatrix interests you most?
It has to be…Bee.
Roland Beamont. Battle of France, Battle of Britain, Battle of Normandy, Battle over Germany. V1 killer, Typhoon and Tempest test pilot. Then, Lightning, Canberra, and TSR2 test pilot, and involvement in programs including the Tornado (and Eurofighter too, I believe). An ace, a leader, an inspiration, and born flyer.
RE: Roland Beaumont: Family?
I don’t believe he was – Its Beamont without the U. (A common misspelling). Their is an obituary at http://www.telegraph.co.uk if you type in Beamont in the search box.
RE: No more heroes………
I was fortunate enough to speak with ‘Bee’ on the phone after the 609 Squadron reunion at Duxford in July. One of the greatest pilots we have been fortunate enough to have had in this country. I learnt today of his passing, and can only say that I feel honoured to have had the chance of meeting him. Now that he is reunited with his wife, Pat, and his former friends, it is important to remember the contribution he and others like him made to our lives, and to be grateful for it. Never forget. We are all the poorer for his passing, but richer for his being.
