By experience reading thru these Legends-meet-up posts the last four years, it’s always hard because everyone have an idea where to meet and so on. “Let’s meet in front of the Beafighter at noon” etc and then some other wise chap joins in with another idea leaving it all in total confusion.
If it’s gonna work out (and I’m free on Sunday most parts) someone needs to be put in charge, and then simply decide where and when.
Now, back to my weather browsing. 😀
Well…
You know…making mistakes if you’re a top writer, you might have people correcting them for you! 😀
It usually helps to have *something*. If not in history, then in education.
I never really considered a career in this. Way too small market. I do my bit, writing some articles for free, making websites, posting pictures and even writing a book, but unless you’re top 5 in the country, the money pretty much equals nil I’m afraid. Got lots of other things out of it though. Meeting people at The Eagle in Cambridge recognizing me from bits and bobs online, largely getting a new job because of what I did with my book, and putting it all on my resume, regardless if I do it for free or not. It has helped me in many ways and I’ve met plenty of interesting people. Guess you can call it a career even though it doesn’t pay, right? 😀
I could be mistaken as the UK scene is bigger than what I’m operating in though, regarding the money. I’m sure someone with more knowledge than me can fill you in.
Most non-pleasing part of Legends is my frantic weather search, going on from this day until the day I leave. It’s like an obsession.
No that isn’t one of them, had not much luck with the Norwegian Consulate in communicating to the Norwegian veterans. The ones we have are all local to the Muskoka and Collingwood areas who moved back to the area after the war. We had really hoped for more involvement from the Consulate to get Veterans from Norway over for the Anniversary but it has been very disappointing as the governments don’t really feel that 70 is an important milestone. To make sure that no one would forget these two battles, this 70th Anniversary Air Show is an entirely private venture as no government felt it as an important enough milestone. To quote one branch “Come back and talk to us for the 75th”. That’s ok though because it really isn’t about them it is about honouring our veterans and the ones who never came back.
Hope to see everyone out at the show July 17 & 18.
Sorry to hear, but still very pleased you managed to get some of the local veterans involved.
Press release is now up at their blog. 50 aircraft and 10 Spittys!

We have been slowly compiling a list of veterans also and we now have a few Norwegian vets,
Let me guess, Ltn. General Wilhelm Mohr being one of them?
Oh, too bad about the Gladiator, but it won’t really make the show less fun. Always something else to see. 🙂
One day…one day there will be two of them in the air.
Good news so far….. TFC were missed last year despite the best efforts to fill the displays.
‘
Except for a relative small amount of Spits, TFC managed to put on such a good show, I didn’t really give it much thought when the show was ongoing!
The first picture is classic. Could have been 1944.
Bit harsh to pass judgement on the cause of the crash being a Chinese made engine given the complete lack of an explanation so far?
Hence the “question mark”.
That’s one aeroplane I’ve never seen before.
God how ugly it is too.
Superbly brilliant piece of flying, ditching that plane and then swimming to shore after.
Heartbreaking to see though.
Those Chinese engines must be a bit of a question mark…
very good news. hoping for the gladiator as well
Here’s a bit from that weekend in April
Flight over North Weald and Epping. Thanks again, you know who you are!

Me 109 formation coming in
It’s a question almost impossible to answer due to the high amount of factors involved.
I say Spitfire because it’s prettier. 😀
