I have been away for a few days and I am sorry for bumping this thread, which has a little bit of controversy in it, up to the top again.

I would just like to wish PT all the best in putting her back into the air. I am happy everyone is ok from this little incident.

She truly is the most pretty Hurricane on the scene.

A joy to see pictures like this. Amazing.

Out of pure curiosity, when did they build the M11 and why did they put it so damn close to the airfield?

I was there in 06 and there was no real problem. Didn’t know the taxis could go down the entire thing so we got out at the gate. Some chap on a break said he could drive us to the squadron and so he did. Very grateful for such great service.

If “EN179”, real or imagined, gets one kid to learn the story or dig a bit deeper into the history, she’ll have done her job regardless of her pedigree.

    Absolutely and amen.

No idea. It was a wreck just sitting there.

    Doubt it’s a Barracuda.

    JU88 more likely?

I think this is the one you’re referring to

Yes. My father used to know the guy. He worked on it for 2 decades or something. And it happened like you say.

One brief test-hop, but the resulting landing did some damage and the plane’s been grounded since.

Exactly like you say. Very sad thing. He spent two decades on it. I heard that it was only a taxi-test and for some reason he put a bit too much throttle on it and it caught him by surprise. However, I heard that story when I was just a kid. I think even saw some footage of it long ago.

Any idea what the (partial) airframe to the right of the Spit replica is in the last shot? Looks vaguely German perhaps?

    This one?

I have no idea. I looked at it for ages and I could not make up my mind. First it looked like an FW190, then it looked like a Hurricane wing and then it looked like a bomber of some kind. Then I just gave up and figured I would ask you guys! Thanks for reminding me about it!

Yes I looked at the inside shot I did and it looks weird. However, the production list states it’s in Oslo and it’s this one, if they haven’t copied it meaning the original is still there somewhere, not on exhibit. Meaning this museum just got a copy version

    Update:

What they did was probably to copy this one, send the original to Bodø and leave this hanging from the roof.
Huge letdown. Feel free to change the title to “replica”. The original is indeed at Bodø
