Not that I was aware of. If it is it’s brand new info to me. But hey, I’m not an expert at all. I just assumed it was the real thing.
The Spitfire is talked about in the bok “2nd TAF Spitfire ML407” and it doesn’t say anything about it being a replica. There’s even a picture of Major Rosland infront of it (then on wheels) in the museum. I know of one guy who buildt his own Spitfire in a smaller scale using the Spitfire as outlines for his Spitfire.

Way too big. Sorry.
I linked them instead for now. Your browser will automatically fit them nicely to your screen.
I really enjoyed reading about what he did after the war and how much he did for his fallen comrades. It’s different than compared to some of the ones I’ve met who is more of the “let’s just forget this and get on with our lives” type of guys.
A true hero, Mr Fox.
Forgive me, sir :p
Could you be a bit more specific?
Yes I can. Norwegian fighter pilot Major Finn Thorsager, first Norwegian in battle with German forces, Little Norway instructor, serving in both 331 and 332 Sqd, the latter as squadron leader until summer 1943. Later in Transport Command and then on the Scotland – Sweden BOAC route flying Lockheed Hudsons. One of the few pilots flying Gladiators in combat.
What book project?
See above
What type of photos? (Action, period, interior, profile shots etc.?)
Lockheed Hudson in civilian colors, but I’m not picky and anything will do.
FW190 in flight would be preferable.
Hawker Typhoons around D-Day, but again I’m not picky.
A B-25 Mitchell would also be fun.
Didn’t know Wikipedia photos was in public domain.
I’ll dig into them ๐
My own opinion is that a new film of the Dam busterโs story should not be made; let the original stand as a testament to the bravery of the aircrew involved!
Here you got a great chance of introducing and telling the story of the brave men of 617 Squadron to a whole new generation of audience. Sorry, make that around 3 generations of audience. And you don’t like it?
The original, as good as it may be, does not do the work in 2008. If we’re gonna carry these stories for another 50 years or so, they need to be re-done and introduced again. It doesn’t work throwing a black and white movie from the 50’s to youngsters and think they’ll show interest.
Peter Jackson is doing the only right thing and thank *insert worshipping figure here* that there are people around who can make movies and have this interest. Maybe one 12 year old will see the new Dambuster movie, go read the books and make another epic and important WW2 movie 40 years later down the road? Ever thought about that? ๐
make a movie about the Operation Cerberus โThe Channel Dashโ. The story has everything, but most of all it is the story of 18 swordfish crew who in my humble opinion where the bravest of the brave!
Couldn’t agree more.
My book is a gift from chairman of Warbirds of Norway, and include a valuable signature from Finn Thorsager who was the first Norwegian pilot to engage a German aircraft near Oslo in his Gloster Gladiator.
Look for the book about him coming out in 2009.
Couldn’t have been more than 15-16 years old the first time I read about Ogwyn George and his escape.
My father bought a Norwegian book about 15-20 years ago dealing with a number of Norwegian crash sites. I’ll see if I can dig it up and provide some good locations.
I haven’t gone to any of them myself, however I would very much like to see some of them before all it’s gone.
Been going “gold” a few times. 2006 and 2008. Loved it both times. Especially if the sun is a killer it’s so nice with the cooler enclosure there and let’s not forget the Spitfire Ale they serve. ๐
Please do! Thank you ๐
That makes me confused
Started watching the show back in 2004. Now I got all of the episodes on DVD. It’s a stunning show. The stories are usually great but it’s the whole atmosphere of a 1940’s England that sucks me in. It’s brilliant.
You’re not a fighter pilot!
Wot bout’ ya top button?
nah..I’ll get my coat too.
A V in the air is not possible with that Sabre engine. It’s not reliable enough IMO.
They would need to find a way to convert the whole deal to a Centaurus or something. I consider the chance of a V in the air as utopia. :(:(
So I settle for a II.
There’s one ready..pictures at http://www.hawkertempest.se
All painted. Needs the engine. Ohhh what a sight that could be.
A pity, but not altogether surprising – without spending a fortune, one can buy a better version of the same line – in the Sea Fury. Better performance, better looks, and cheaper….
:eek::eek::eek:
Tempest is the BEST!
I like the V better than the Tempest II but nonetheless. Sea Fury? That’s not a Tempest!!!!:diablo:
