Don’t come to Aberdeen !!!!!
Don’t come to Aberdeen !!!!!
Ah well, wasn’t he part of the Norwegian Resistance (Great role for a guy of Greek origins)?
I guess his plan was that any Germans who spotted him would be laughing too much to be able to line their sights up on him.
Moggy
Who would ever have thought that Norwegian fashions were so far ahead of their time !!!! 😀
( Just before any dummy spitting occurs – absolutely no offence intended to any Norwegians on the forum !! )
Meticulous attention to uniform and period detail teamed with 1970s haircuts that would have had any senior officer going berserk back in the 1940s.
Hmmmmm.
Most inappropriate haircut in a war film ever…….Well George Chakiris’s bouffant masterpiece in 633 Squadron must be right up there with the best of them ! 😮
However, you could identify BV234 crews in the Aberdeen nightclubs, they had a somewhat green glow about them…
Just shows you…..I always thought that was down to the crap lighting system in Mr G’s !! 😀
The 44 pax down the back were on seats that were bolted to a floor on a completely different set of shock absorbers, which made a most uncomfortable flight, especially when you tried to look out of the window!!!
As one of the 44 down the back on occasion, I can concur !! Thought I’d seen the last of them until I started working in the Norwegian sector in the early / mid nineties ! Your eyeballs would still be shaking 30 mins after you’d disembarked !! 😮
The Shackletons’ fate was even worse though.
I may be wrong, but I think that the nose section of the Shack was saved and is still in this country
Was a great place in a lovely setting, and was what started off my interest in historic aviation.
I remember flying in to one of the last airshows there back in the 80’s to find the Lanc sitting outside repainted in full camoflage. It carried out engine runs during the day – I think all 4 Merlins were turning ,but I can’t be totally sure.
If you go to the photo section on “airliners.net” and type in Strathallan in the search engine, you’ll find a few images of the collection over the years.
Sadly missed 🙁
Sod it, lets hear them all !!! :D:D
Dutch Connie
Just a couple of pics from two weeks ago. Nice to be able to get on board and have a look around. Would love to see her in the air though.
Certainly has to be in contention for winner of the most atractive looking Dak award.
Yep, Got to agree with you there PP, a lovely scheme.
So she’s up for sale, but in the meantime, does she get looked after, ground run etc…..
The BoB was all about the defence of Southern England, not the far north of Scotland, well not directly at the time anyway.
.
Pete, Not wishing to have a go, or sound nationalistic ( though I am proud to be Scottish) but I always thought Battle of Britain day was as more about commemorating and remembering those who flew, defended the airfields and worked all hours to keep the aircraft servicable.
I would imagine that there were a substantial number of Scots involved in this and, as such think that Leuchars, and Scotland, has every right to stage a Battle of Britain airshow.

Sad indeed. 🙁
Been a Floyd fan since an early age. Many great songs came from the collective members of Pink Floyd, but for me Rick Wright’s “The Great Gig In The Sky” has always been a favourite.
Just a fantastically emotive piece of music.
RIP Rick and thanks for the music you leave behind.

This one is when it was outside
Thanks Robert,
Any idea what year that was, I’m guessing that it may have been fairly soon after it was flown over fron Canada as it would appear that restoration had not started at this point.
Also, what happened to the AEW Avenger – that is also in the pic – following the auction, and why would it appear to have its prop wrapped ?? I seem to remember it’s engine was inhibited and that it was never a runner during it’s time there so….why ??
