My answer was to a question about airports rebranding outide its cacthment area
Black Kettle I dont have axe to grind with any one just becasue i work at Glasgow,I have pointed out that Prestwick was never called Glasgow Prestwick until Ryan air Turned up FACT
Please tell me where I slatted Prestwick in my postings? I havent said one bad thing about it .
I have lived near Glasgow for 40 Years, I have worked at Glasgow for the last 10 years, and It was in the last 10 years that Prestwick added Glasgow to its name , It has never been known by any one In Scotland as Glasgow Prestwick before then
I do recall being At work discussing the name Change for PIK, and what problems and confussion it would lead to and yep the very next day I was stopped by a couple in a car Looking for Ryanair, over the next few week similiar story and even Cargo Trucks looking for Glasgow Prestwick
As I said Pik Only added Glasgow to their name after Ryanair Started flying out of PIK ,
as for Time taken to travel there Its half the time to Glasgow compared to Pik by road and By Train , i believe that you have to past Paisley train station ( were theres a bus shuttle to Glasgow)on you’re way to PIK
If Prestwick was so convenient for airlines then Glasgow would have shut down a long time ago and It hasn’t , the same cant be said for PIK
But putting this topic back On Course Ryanair will get a deal from Boeing , but not the one MOL wants
Boeing is Hemorrhaging Money due to the delay of the 787 project they have had to give major deals to keep customers on board
Well in fairness Glasgow Prestwick has been Glasgow Prestwick for a lot longer than the length of time FR have been flying there. As the designated transatlantic gateway for Scotland, the Airport was always viewed as Glasgow.
If you’re a public transport user then I also don’t think PIK is much worse to get to than GLA. Whilst the direct rail link takes longer, I remember using the bus services to the GLA in 2001 from the city centre and it was a rubbish journey. I always prefer trains over buses!
Prestwick only rebranded after RYR stared flying there,it has never been known or looked apon as Glasgow by anyone that I know ,and I have lived next to Glasgow Airport for over 40 Years
By road, ie bus will take you best part of 1 hour to get to PIK only 20 mins to GLA ,
I think you may all be making too much fuss about this distance thing. FR serve plenty of ‘main’ airports and also a number of secondary airports which are actually closer than their main airport counterparts. Admittedly they have a significant number of airports which are some distance from the city they ‘serve’ but you can’t just focus on these and exclude all mention of the others.
CIA is closer to Rome than the main airport at FCO.
GSE is closer to Gothenburg than GOT.
They serve BHD not BFS.
They use Madrid’s main airport.
Non of their UK airports are rebranded beyond their normal catchment.
They moved from the more obscure TFN to TFS.:
You Forgot Prestwick.or Glasgow Prestwick which it likes to be called these days
so are we to see an new aircraft manufacturer in the near future ,,
Been tested up In the Loch Doon ,last test was last week from PIK I believe, callsign was Avro 4 G-BRXT was the one involved , but from pictures Ive seen water wasn’t dropped
And now for some levity in a serious situation!

And so David Letterman Monday night offered the Top Ten Northwest Airlines Pilot Excuses on CBS.
10. Bunch of fat guys seated on the right side of the plane made us vector east.
9. We get paid by the hour.
8. Mapquest always takes you the long way, am I right, people?
7. Tired of that show-off Sullenberger getting all the attention.
6. You try steering one of those airplanes after eight or nine cocktails.
5. Wanted to catch the end of the in-flight movie.
4. Activating autopilot and making occasional P.A. announcements is exhausting.
3. According to our map, we only missed our target by half an inch.
2. For a change, we decided to send luggage to the right city and lose the passengers.

Excuse me !! the weather was ok untill you got to Edinburgh , then it went down hill and didnt improve till you left:p
Nice selection of pictures Stu,
Indeed they do. Any idea how much longer the airline plans to keep the -400s for? The -300s and -500s have gone, so I am assuming the -400s will be gone pretty soonish.
Nice snaps by the way! :p
Belive that they have another 3-4 years to go
Always thought an employer had a duty of care to wards their employees,
I know from my own experience a company cant force their workers to do work that may endanger those carrying out the task
