Here are some shots I took of an RAF Robot Star II camera.
Hi Ross
Good question! :diablo:
Hows the restoring going?
Here are some shots I took inside the PR9 before they left service.
Hello All,
A week to go before the Waddington show, am hoping the 2 PR.9s remain serviceable and return from the deployment.
Hope they turn up together and beat the place up.
Tim
The 2 PR9’s left their deployment base on Thursday 22nd and should have returned home on the 23rd.
The Squadron are planning to take all 3 Canberras to Waddington
Follow the link to see about the end and the last mission of the Canberra Canberra makes its last operational flight
A few photos from the Queen’s Review of the R.A.F in 1977 at Finningley
I remember that day, I was there as a very young LAC photographer. I still have some of the images I took somewhere at home. I will have to try and dig them up.
Great set on pictures cestrian 🙂

Time to go

PLEASE, ROYAL AIR FORCE, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE…. dont get rid of our beloved Canberra…. PLEASE…. PRETTY PLEASE WITH KNOBS ON……. 🙁
I’m with you on this one, for the last 30 years with the RAF I have worked as an ‘Air Photographer’, when the PR9 goes, I have to start looking for another job, it looks like I will be put behind a desk for the rest of my service time. (thank god it’s only 6 years)
As for the imagery try RAPTOR
Looks good, but then again, you only put the best on show to the public
Echo the ‘Nice pics’ comments Matzos.
Since I started this thread with a dumb question…
… if two of the last three are on ops in Afganistan, what will replace them?
There is to be no replacement at this time for the PR9, so the MoD will lose it’s last RAF ‘Wet Film’ Recce system.
There are digital recce systems being used, but ‘Wet Film’ is and always will be (in my view) far better.
As most of us know the F/A2 and PR9 will be OS and retired at the end of March this year. Question is does anyone know if anything is being done at Yeovilton or Marham on the last day these aircraft are in service?
Have a look at:
Nice pics Matzos,
Would love to see more, perhaps the unit could sell some prints at Waddington and maybe Fairford??????
I’d buy some
Tim
There are plans to fly recce at Waddington, there will be a processing cabin there, the will be processing only a demo film, as most of the equipment is away on deployment. I think the plan is to fly the film back to Marham, process and then print it, then return to the airshow with the prints for the public.
Thats the plan, but as you all know military plans change by the minute….
That would be good. Not a lot of chances left to see Cranberries at work.
Need any Talcum Powder in the sandbox?
Well these babies are working around the clock…….
and as to Talcum Powder…Yes please… :p
There are currentally:
4 Canberra PR9
1 Canberra T4according to the RAF website http://www.raf.mod.uk/equipment/strength.html
Phil ps nice pics
The T4 left RAF service a number of months ago and the PR9 fleet is now down to 3 😮
Ref “portable dark rooms”. A clutch of ATRELs ( Air Transportable Reconnaissance Exploitation Laboratories) is hopefully going to be set up with the IWM at Duxford.
A number of ATREL’s have been moved to IWM Duxford, they were the one’s used by 41(F) Sqn.
At this very time I’m working in an ATREL in the desert, I’m on detachment with 39(1PRU) Sqn, we have a set-up of 5 cabins.
I have posted pictures of the PR9 canberra at the following link:
Just to let you know, I’m on detachment with 39(1PRU)Sqn, flying PR9 Canberra’s for the last time before they disbanded at the end of July 06.
I hope you like some of the pictures I have taken so far.
If anyone would like to see some more please let me know.
