Last I heard of JG668, it had gone from the airfield to a museum/ display, in Haverfordwest town. Saw it a couple of times before it moved but it had not progressed much each time I visited. I haven’t seen it since the move though. Possibly the 1000 day restoration was a tad optimistic?
I was over at Theddlethorpe in October and called by North Coates hoping to see it but unfortunately chose a day when no one was about. Always liked Miles aircraft and that one certainly is a rarity.
Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t SL542 the one from Canada that was then at Enstone for a little while before going to Germany?
It is good being able to get all sorts of stuff online, but to me you cannot beat a paper copy in your hand be it magazine , manual or book. I like things tangible.
He could auction it ?, but obviously put a reserve of what the least he’d let it go for and then anything it makes above that figure would be a bonus.
Looking forward to Spitfire No 3 DADE, an interesting thread.
Re. BP926, perhaps Mark12 can answer that.
Thanks for the clarification Andy, I thought that I wasn’t imagining it.
I see in the latest Flypast, Chris Clifford says in his editorial that this will be the worlds only flying early mark reconnaissance Spitfire. I thought there was a PR IV being rebuilt in Norway or Sweden which is quite well advanced that was going to fly or am I under some misapprehension and it will be a static rebuild?
Yes thank you, good to hear .
Sure to be worth £50:00 of anyone’smoney I would think.
Yes I’ve missed his presence on here too trumper, hope he comes back on. DADE there was Percy Sheppard from Upper Hill,Herefordshire a garage and pub turned surplus store who saved a Spitfire MKXVI, I forget the serial number at present, but mainly I don’t want to sidetrack your thread. Cheers
Yes very sad to hear
Hello DADE, yes now you’ve put the FAX on, it is definitely the same Peter Wood that had the Seafire. Thanks.
DADE those are great photos and the write up , it is really interesting to learn about the background history of this aeroplane, I presume that Peter Wood who was mentioned re. the Griffon is the same person that used to own Seafire XVII SX336 ? I look forward to more of your posts.
