Got tickets last night, fingers crossed for good weather.
Fair point, I see what you mean.
Always thought they were a ground power unit. The head and barrels would be square with a cowling bolted onto them. After the war they modified the head and barrel for the 500Triumph GP racer.
Yes that’s the sort of thing Rosevidney, but it’s a printed one that I’d want and I’ve only seen them on cd. Any pointers where to look please?
Thanks H87A-2, basically what I’m looking for is more about the aeroplane it’s self, technical etc, as opposed to squadron usage and history of that sort.
Thank you for the reply, The Bump, I appreciate the information. Cheers
Which Spitfire was doing the performance, was it Martin Phillip’s one?
Any idea what the grip and compass are off?
Ok thanks for the reply Mark12.
Didn’t see anything in the September Aeroplane??
Looks good, any forthcoming articles on it?
Well that has given me something to go on, thank you all very much for your suggestions, much appreciated.
I saw him at Rendcombe in the early 90’s with his Harvard and his then girlfriend who is now his wife I presume. He seemed a very unassuming sort of chap by what I saw of him and his display was fine. As much as I remember it was not the best of days for display flying either, a fair old wind and low cloud base.
Sad news, sorry to hear that, never met him but was always interested to read about his acquisitions. I didn’t realise that he was that old, R.I.P.
I went last night to see it with my 13 year old son, we both enjoyed it very much. One thing that puzzled me when the pilot was trying to get out of the ditched Spitfire was why did he ditch with canopy closed and secondly was there not a canopy release fitted to the early Mark Spitfires as per the later ones?
Also have you found yourself a decent beach landing shot yet Mark 12?
