It’s usually March I think – certainly around that time that show organisers get to know whether they’ve been successful or not.
The Tempest.
Sorry!
That’s tremendous news – very much looking forward to seeing the aircraft fly again… perhaps even tempt you to one of our bash’s at Breighton?
All the very best.
“Escort to Berlin – The 4th Fighter Group in World War II” by Garry Fry & Jeff Ethell has a chapter on the Eagles, as does “Fighting – Church Fenton” by Peter Mason.
Wonderful! Love the Mossie landing sequence. Forthcoming film? Showreel piece?
Texantoncat,
Do you want the expurgated or unexpurgated version?
If the latter give me a day or so to put my thoughts in order as I am still perplexed/confused and excited with the thought of the possibilities to see a Pobjoy and Gipsy Swift in flight together.
Wow – would love to see the pair of them flying! The Gipsy Swift has quite a history and was rumoured to be in airworthy condition although I gather that Doug Muir hadn’t flown her in some considerable time. Just how fit is the aircraft and do you think that she’ll fly very soon?
That’s tremendous news, all very best of luck to you.
Breaking down on the A1 in an old MGA with my brother-in-law, BBMF Mk XIX Spitty flying past at low level, MGA working again – ahhhh, that old Spitfire magic!
There used to be something called ‘Xtreme Air Racing’ and ‘Reno Air Racing’, not sure if they were for FS though. Got a PC to play aeroplanes with (I’m a Mac user in real life) and, sods law, haven’t been able to find the racing game… the web address (http://www.xtremeairracing.com/) now seems to lead elsewhere.
very sad news indeed, the end of an era. Condolences to Ray’s family and friends.
And don’t forget G-AIXN
Anyone know its current circumstances?
Still based at Breighton last time I looked.
Steve – don’t you ever go to work?! Nice pix!!
Why does the Piper Cub like thing only have one aleron??!!!!
It’s a remarkable ‘crazy flying’ routine performed by Kent Pietsch during which he and the aircraft (an Interstate S-1 Cadet built in 1942) create the kinds of situations that really make you whince and cringe (especially if, like me, you’re so caught up in the excitement of the event that you don’t realise the routine’s about to happen!!). During the ‘intrusion’ bits suddenly start to fall off the machine before it strays into the airspace of another aerobatic performance! Kent then sends various stooges on the apron running for cover by scooting along the ground, hopping back into the air and finally coming to an abrupt halt crowd centre. The hapless pilot is then arrested and carted off! Brilliant stuff!!
Nice pictures! I went to Reno in ’03 and can’t wait to go again… the amosphere is like nothing I’ve experienced before, Section 3 are a major laugh – especially when one of their rank supposedly steals an aircraft which then begins to fall apart in flight! There’s more to Reno than the racing – warbird concours d’elegance, static park, fantastic airshow… thanks for sharing. The racing pics now please!
The Mew Gull, Hawk Speed Six and DH Comet ‘Grosvenor House’ from a Maggie (no doubt red-lining it to keep up!). Mmmmmmmm!
