Steve, if you ‘LIKE’ their Facebook page they give you a link to the coming weekend’s schedule, its has been very useful! I saw the Spitfires fly over RAF Church Fenton earlier in the day on Saturday, I must admit I thought it was the silver Mk IX and clipped Mk XVI but they were some distance away when I saw them (could hear them for many minutes after they’d passed!).
Airline – filmed at RAF Church Fenton and Rufforth airfield.
Yes, filmed at Breighton some years ago. Taff Smith the pilot for the Hurricane sequence. They filmed quite a bit of the drama at the airfield.
I like pictures that give a real idea of the event – thanks for posting.
Good to see the Breighton kites, especially the ‘Jeeves’ and ‘Janie’ at the pumps shot – I know who’s tab I’d have preferred to have picked up.

They were planning to get the Harrier indoors the last time I was there (around the same time as you at a guess – although the DC-3 was outside when I went). I really like AeroVenture, a great little museum with very friendly staff.

Hi,
The Breighton Wings and Wheels event will now run the weekend before your published date (14th/15th July instead of 21st/22nd). There will be provision for public access although we haven’t established the exact format as yet – probably pro-rata Club membership for the remaining year although weekend membership has also been discussed. Details will be available on the website at some point after our AGM in March/April.
Cheers,
Dav’
Ben, I’ll keep a look out for you – which day?
Flight of the Mew Gull
Taff Smith bought the Mustang from the Morgan family late 2004/early 2005 and based it at Breighton alongside Rob Fleming’s Hurricane and Buchon. The aircraft was renamed ‘Darlin’ Ann’ around July 2007, I guess after Mrs Taff. We had a lot of fun with ‘Susy’, I flew to the Czech Republic in the jump seat with Taff which was the stuff of dreams, especially with Brian Brown flying alongside us in the Hurricane. Happy days.
Hi Steve,
He flew from Breighton to Orkney right up the east coast, Northumbria (round about your neck of the wood!), Firth of Forth, Aberdeen… then the route south was a straight line from JO’G to LE, diagonal across the country, clipping South Wales (which is where we lost him on the tracker – minor panic!), over Lands End then back up to Yorkshire. Following him on the tracker is a bit like watching football on Ceefax – but surprisingly compulsive!

Taff Smith is due to launch his bid in about three weeks time. He tested the Glasair in its Cape configuration from John O’Groats to Lands End yesterday and completed in 2 hours 38 minutes with an average speed of 205.09kts (235.85mph). Only problem encountered (after taking into account the naff weather and failure of the sat tracker two thirds through) was, after being strapped into the cockpit for the better part of a day, he had to divert to Rufforth due to unfavourable crosswind at Breighton!

Getting closer by the minute – Taff should begin testing very soon – here’s his Glasair parked beside the daddy of all record breakers!

Any shots of the Zlin duo flyby perchance ?
Great pictures Steve – not wanting to hijack your thread but I got a (naff) pic of the Zlin arrival!
Cheers,
