Wot! No Mew Gull/Arrow Active? Nice to see the Breighton Jungmeister though.
Very nice pictures.

Unlikely, pretty sure I haven’t seen either of the Hammond Mustangs at Duxford, never mind Legends.
I’m happy to wait until next week.
“Legends proved that you don’t need a polished display routine to entertain – just get five or six Mustangs in the air, beat up the airfield with some low passes and watch the grins on the faces in the crowd. Special mention must go to Maurice Hammond and Robs Lamplough who, in ‘Janie’ and ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ respectively, kept the crowd at the western end thoroughly entertained in fine ‘beat ’em up’ style. Top marks!”
Quote from: http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/airshow02/legends/legends.htm although I’m sure it would have been Rob Davies flying BBD.
I’ve organised RAF flypasts for a number of events and informing relevant authority/s is part of the paperwork ‘pack’ that you’re expected to complete when making your bid, I forget exactly how it works but I believe one of the forms is sent to NATS. I was at Elvington when the Reds pulled out of their display due to airspace infringement, very disappointing for spectators and no doubt annoying for the display pilots and organisers. Full credit to the pilot of the Spitfire for their skill and judgement.
Quick update – the salvaged engine arrived at Breighton this morning.
Cemetery: JONKERBOS WAR CEMETERY
How appropriate if the engine could return by 25th May….
Indeed, I imagine the reunion on the 6th June will be a very emotionally charged event.
I’ve had the most fun with aeroplanes at Breighton, or away from base with the Breighton crowd, and often that has included the appearance of Taff screaming past in the Mew Gull and giving chase to some other, equally delightful, aircraft. Oddest sight was the Mew Gull sharing ramp space with a Saab Draken at Reno! Is the Tipsy Trainer yours? Beautiful machine, we occasionally get a Belfair pay us a visit up here but haven’t seen a Trainer.
Sorry for meandering off topic!
I see that Steve Nujaim has postponed his long planed attemt due to fuel supply problems!
Interestingly I believe that Steve is now planning to go in September/October as well.
Taff is much more than G-AEXF’s pilot. He is also the aeroplane’s owner!
Rob Fleming may well disagree with you there Low ‘n’ slow!
We plan to begin flight testing the Glasair next month which should be fun.
LF363 at Sherburn although it wasn’t a VE Day event, it was an air races weekend.
Taff Smith’s Cape Record assault
Sorry to resurrect this thread but I thought some of you might be interested to know that Taff Smith is hoping to set a new record for solo flight to the Cape and back this September/October. Interesting for many I guess because he’s G-AEXF’s current display pilot, that’s ‘Alex Henshaw’s Mew Gull’ for those who don’t ‘do’ numbers! Taff has a little website at http://www.thecaperun.co.uk/ for those wishing to know more.
But annual membership is cheaper than some airshow ticket prices – and if you take close friends and family with you it’s cheaper still as they can be admitted free as guests. Works for me!
Can’t understand why this isn’t getting more coverage… Chalkie is now on his way back to South Africa, refuelling in Algiers. Go Chalkie – good luck!!
Nice one Ben, the mono pic’s inspired!
Ken, thanks for the info, a guy I used to have a pint with from time to time was quite heavily involved with the memorial garden, his father having been based at Pollington (and Burn) during the war. He often offered to guide me around the memorial but we never got around to it – one day soon perhaps.
Glad you had an enjoyable and poignant day. I agree with your sentiment re: the BBMF – national treasures.
Thanks for that BB! My ‘Auto’ is only as good as yours 😀
Yes, first warbird appearance of the season is always special, and lovely to see the full BBMF trio (just the fighters last time I headed over to Pollington). Not sure where the memorial garden is so camped on the grass verge on Snaith Road with a couple of dozen others including Ben (hope Mr Neighbourhood Watch didn’t lose you a lift home, Ben!).
Anyway, pic attached for evidential purposes only, shooting into the sun for the most part (static props and all!).
Taken at Church Fenton many years ago
Nice one Brian! I remember witnessing a similar (if not the same) display at the much missed SSAFA show – freeloading work colleagues of mine who opted to watch the show from outside the airfield were going to put in an official complaint as, in their own words, ‘…it nearly took our heffing heads off!’
