J8 is not very good dogfighter and outdated design. It is an interceptor and even in that role it has troubles with low speed planes. PAF has no need to have a fighter that size. It has not a huge depth so Indian planes will be within minutes on their target. Sending big high speed interceptor is not very handy in that scenario. Besides that they need to build up an industry with a plane that is capable as the F16. The FC1 is chinese design and plug-and-play western parts. That is the reason they rather go for a new and moldable design then an oldy.

F7PG is just a intermediate. Small and not good enough for BVR. It is maybe handy in point defence but don’t make it more then that. J8 is just not enough. J10 is a potent material if top avionics are installed. That is why the PAF j10 will have western parts. The J10 is much more expensiv and not going to be assembled in Pakistan. So they rather go for medium tech and building in Pakistan then only high tech and become depending…
