I was reading an interesting article in Jane’s FR that talked about a rumored Israeli superweapon, capable of destroying Egyptian and Syrian armed assets in a matter of minutes. Thwe weapon is under construction or about to be completed, and is known only as ‘the Project’ Whether it actually exists is another question, but it first came to light over the entrapment and torture of one reserve artillery officer, Tannenbaum.
thoughts, anyone?
nuke?
I doubt that Egypt will be allowed to send a sat into orbit. The US has strong financial links and stripping them from spare parts make them practicly unarmed. We all know that Egypt was restricted from amraam? So it is not very independent. Most of the Egyptians are not favouring the US links and they are contributers for Al Qaida. Hosni Mubarak is just doing what the US wants it to do and in return he gets a lot of financial credits.
Not spying on Iran is incorrect. Even with Iran having finished the Nuclear station Israel will need more info about further devlopments. I doubt they will launch attack. The retaliation is indeed tough. Iran has told openly that they will counter much worser then Israel can imagine. It sounds very heavy but we have to keep that in our minds.
condolences.
One liner just to slime towards the huge arm supplier. No technical information… It is not a chat session dude.
Anyway. Israel has one of the largest spysats in the region. I don’t think the others will stay behind. Just a matter of time before others will buy the tools to do the same.
I read that this missile is subsonic and looks more like the average US cruise missile we all know from Irac. Low low profile compared to the high low profile of Brahmos which is flying supersonic. With Subs and 300 km range with nukes it has added huge firepower. PN was an ant compared to the Indian counterpart. Not they have some new very sharp claws.
I checked the Brahmos homepage. Indeed flashy. How important is that supersonic cruise missile part? It is high speed. OK. But what is the trajectory? And how well is it in destroying ground targets? And compared to the US cruise missile… What are the advantages? And is there a pic of the Air launched version? Which plane can carry that version? Thanks.
To spy which nations? I doubt they are going after Irac now…
 didnt you just quote me saying that im not arguing about the long term advanatges of the FC1 over another J7 derivative? im just not quite convinced that the PLAAF can afford to buy the FC1 in the numbers they need them in without having to make cut backs on the high end J10s and flankers, hence why the MF might be considered a better short term choice.
as for the question of whether the Mig21 has any more upgrade potential, well the J7MF clearly shows that there is still some left. but the question being posed is whether the gains justify the costs (in terms of money and time).
mig21 with chin intake is very old. The Russian did tested it long before F16… So it is now potential? What is next? J10 could be replaced by delta mig21? The fc1 is movign beyond the mig21 limitations. Returning back to only money issue is not the best comparisation.
There was an article about the Mig23/27 in the AFM (not very long ago). IT had intresting info but cannot find it here. Sorry.
I read somewhere that new ballistic missiles tend to alter course. Even on final. A defence meassure like multiple (fake) bombs. Isn’t that making these defences weapons less capable? And how much can this arrow do after dropping the booster (g’s)?
>>>i’m not arguing about the superiority of the FC1 in the long term, just wondering about its practicality.
In the long term ythe fc1 has more options to upgrade. I think you know that there has been no plane in the word that has been tested is so many configurations like the mig21. Look at :
http://www.suchoj.com/andere/MiG-21/galerie.shtml
It is basic an engine with small cockpit, small wings… The idea was to get maximum out of the engine. Compared to that respect the Fc1 is more modular. There is room for modular parts from any producer. While the mig21 has little room for that. It might be tested design but at the moment one cannot make much more then Russian mig21-93 or the Israeli Lancer version. Adding bigger radar or more avionics isn’t going to be easy on a plane that was to be a manned engine. It is like adding more and more weight to a suposed to be light weight superiority fighter… The basic design is making that restricted…
The system needs to be tested and improved. THey will learn from the error. And no system is 100% perfect. But do they fire more then one missile at a target? I did not knew that?
Welcome and enjoy!
It would be good if the Indian side made a request to Saab for the Gripen. Why not use a low cost pawn (a request for possible purchase) to block a high cost bishop (PAF getting the Grippen)? At the worst, it could delay the Pakistani purchase, at best it can derail the whole thing. 🙂
Pawn takes bishop… any day. 😉
Now that is what I posted a few hours ago and I got flamed… Thanks for your answer. It is a strategy and worked with Dassault not selling Mirage 2000…
😉
The press ain’t what it expected to be. But… Before that AFM article came out… Exactly one week before I had exact the same conformed by Pakistani source. It said that it had no impact on the Swedish decission but it was not appreciated by the Pakistani negotiators. BTW the request for information was send to SAAB not the Swedish government. Whether these leaks are truth is allways a good question. But sofar a lot of things were correct. Honestly all of the info was more detailled then it was leaked in the press. You can compare it with those topic of Usman in Pakdef about the missile test. But this source gives the details. And sofar a lot of secrets are well hidden by PAF.
About those f16’s in Kargil. AFM was not the one that produced it. They took some data from a website that was expected to be good. They have replied and excused for that error. But if a Saab director tells about the futur eof Saab and talks about Pakistani and Indian requests then I am sure it has more value.
Getting LCA is a headache for Vietnam. Engine is US. Kaveri needs to be tested a lot before entering operational service. Furthermore the LCA has a lot of foreign components. And final the price it high. Upgrading by India migh be an option but Vietnam has enough cheap labour to do it internal. And why using a middle man if they can go directly to the supplier? And would the Vietnam airforce buy a plane that even the producing country is not happy with? It has not even started weapon testing. There are more then enough alternatives.
