Well, this news has been a part of discussion on some Pakistani boards for about 4 months. There was a clear sign that the ACM would inform Pakistani in june and it would be great news. So probably this is the pre-news with the options. Strangely most Pakistani posters thought about AWACS but this seems to be more logical. Also an option was airrefueling cause PIA was ending operational activites of some Airbus planes so they could be transformed into refueling fleet. But it is well known that ACM is looking for improvement of the fighters. All are aware that A5, F7 are not extremely high tech. A5 is just enough to use it for nukes. But also extremely notorious for the handling. F7 was a cheap way to counter the numbers. It will we same use as the Bis. Point defence and extremely limited CAS. The Mirages are getting old. Pakistan is almost called Miragistan. All the world Mirage 3 and 5 are getting there. Pakistan os the largest user at the moment end the planes have gone thtough some major upgrades but the bodies are not that good anymore. So replacing A5, F7 and Mirages is nothing strange. That will be done by JF17. Almost same numbers probably and with getting hands on production they can move on without help.
The J10 has been on the horizon for decades. Pakistan has been asking for it just like North Korea. North Korea received a unclear no. Pakistan a yes. The plane is in far more fiished state of testing. We have seen wingtanks and BVR and there are some major changes cuase China has been active involved in finding alternatives for the Al31 and avionics. Now that has been done otherwise there would be no export without ok from Russia. That has been also more open to Pakistan since mil heli’s are exported and used by Pakistani forces.
The contradiction is getting F16. In the start is in the list but further in the article there is still no yes. About the Gripen. The engine is still US. Maybe in combinatin with AWACS but without that I doubt they will go for Gripen. But we all know South Africa has been for Gripen with Denel BVR.. And that maybe the connection with Pakistani/South African BVR.. Mirage k2-9? Well… Then they would have opted for the Qatari examples. And the price has been sky high. I had thought they may opt for Rafale but Mirage 2k-9? I don’t think so…
