Then training starts and spare parts flow and usage (it is not a small mig21 remember) have to be optimized… I do not understand why so many signs are released. But we are used to the 120 MKI or M2K stories… I hope they will start the LCA. Much more intresting then more of the same.
Last time the Chinese had signes the deal and the planes had even been tested and fitted with the dish… We all know what happened then 🙂 The can sign it 100 times but it takes time to land in dilli and besides that I think the Pakistani government has some clear opinion about giving the Indian more dangerous toys.

There is an ACIG report on this subject. PAF had some problems in getting the right envelope of the AIM9’s. Then there were some problems with the ground controllers (that resulted in less downed aircrafts). For the rest they performed well. There were a lot of sorties and a lot of kills. The problems was that the Russians did fly low and entered Pakistan fast and for a short period. PAF planes were not allowed to kill if the aircraft would end up in Afghanistan. And besides that the ECM did some good work. But the multilpe attack layers were difficult to handle with just a wingman… Not bad at all.

We should stop pointing at the Bison as a bad plane. Partially it is the result of unexperienced pilots. Not that pilot lack abilities but they have to jump very fast to a high performance aircraft and that is the reason for Hawk option. Bison upgraded are potential and we see some upgraded versions of the F model as the PG in Pakistan. It is not a bad plane at all. It is cheap, simple and point defence plane. If you fill it with bad kerosene, refit with bad quality soare parts or let it fly by unexperienced pilots then it is up to yo ubut do not make it look bad…
all other options not good enough? F16… We know US deals… Sorry the Pakistnai and Indonesian know it… That should be enough warning if we remember the software delivery for the LCA program. The mig29 is Russian. I don’t think India wants to rely on one delivery. They will go for French-Russian inventory. The french are known and the IAF has some experience end toosl for this bird.
I would opt for more mki… but looking at the options the m2k is favourable
