I was at Sandtoft last Sunday and could only see Meteor WS776 parked by the entrance and Ganett XL502 parked by the fuelling point. Has everything else gone or did I miss it all and it was elsewhere on the field? Had never been there before so only went to the flying club end. Saw Jet Provest G-BWGT land, nice sight but it then ddissapeared so guess there are remote hangars? Will post pics later.
Im afraid that the Lasham collection has been in that state for around the last 20 years. the F104 was last to arrive in the early 90’s. The Sea Prince is the last short nose example left I think? They started to paint it in the blue admirals barge colors about 10 years ago and got no further. Sadly I feel this collection will just slowly rot away.
Nice pics from EMA I was there myself today and was going to post some photos. Did Aeroventure at Doncaster and Sandtoft too, will post loads of photos when I get back from a week in the frozen north 😉 on Friday.
On the subject of the Belgrade Sealand does anybody know if the outer wings exist? Every photo I have seen it is wingless and I could see no sign of them in 1989.
On the subject of hanging the light aircraft gallery at Le Bourget is stunning and IMW need to have a good look at that to show how it should be done, love the Rapide with the parachutists at LBG.
Ah ha now I see what you mean thats a Ikarus 451, they made a prop and jet version, the M model that was also on display as 21002. The jet looks like a mini tailwheel Meteor. I dont think they got beyond prototype stage. The Yougoslavs had quite a developed aircraft industry which supprised me when I visited. Still has to be the uglyest museum building though??? Its totally out of context with its surroundings, and is stuck out on its on on the airport permiter road.
Nice photos, far better tham mine when I visited in August 89. The lighting was a bit of a nightmare. And an admission fee then equivalint to less than £1! Quite a british feel with 11503 WS-51 Dragonfly,FT152 T6,JK808 Spit,NM150 DH82,LD975 Hurricane and the Short Sealand.
Did you see the basement store?? It was very tightly packed but had some real gems like
2526 YAK9
10242 Lockheed TV-2
930838 FW190
44-25786 P-38
MM6197/3503 FIAT G50
VE+KE JU87
All were in a dismantled but resonable condition.
And on the subject of “wottissits”, what is the strange silver thing in the seventh photo of the second batch? Looks like someone tried to build a prone-pilot Westland Whirlwind! And how about the derelict twin that looks rather like a Hudson with a Mosquito canopy? Something Tupovlev or Petyakovlev at a guess, but…
What we need is the guidebook – and a translator!
Adrian
YU-ABP is a Ikarus 214-P is the twin
Not sure about the ‘whirlwind’ you mention I assume you mean Mil4 1203?

Have been following this thread with interest – being an associate member of the RAF Millom Museum – we are just starting to acquire airframes to add to the collection – the usual selection up to now, Vampire, Canberra & recently a Tornado cockpit, but a WW2 veteran seems an unobtainable goal. I had no idea that aircraft like this still existed in such a state in this country today – how does this happen? You mention the asking price as a stumbling block – can I ask what this is & who is selling it – is it really for sale or is this just heresay?
:
Personally I have no idea on its owner and current sitauation reguarding a sale. I can appreciate yor frustration re a genuine WW2 era aircraft and there is no ‘private’ museum in the uk that I can recall having one?? Looking back over recient times apart from the B25’s we have had many DC-3’s( Air Altantic had a few ‘out to grass’ last time I was at Coventry, plus those that were at Noth Weald), and a few T6’s including the ex Sandhurst scrapyard ones. Even the WW2 era Austers and Tigers are going to be snapped up by private owners for airwarthy rebuilds. I just think its a crime that the RAFM keeps those late mark Spits for ‘exchange’ when they could go on loan to museums that could put them under cover and look after them.
Twinn Pioneer or perhaps the Lufthansa or Swiss Ju52’s.
Don’t make my brain hurt on a Friday night  .
If this Stirling rumor is true and the fuselarge largely remains where do I send my donation? Espically as its a CIVIL(!!!) Stirling(being a civil fan) although the chance of it being restored as a civil aeroplane in 0%, dam camoflarge. Its one aircraft that I never thought I would ever see, and that may well be. It would be nice flying in formation at Legends 2015 with the York from the Canadian bush.
Here are a couple of photos taken at Blackbushe I think in 1977 and yes one photo does not include B25’s
Well those take me back to being a 7 year old and getting frightened by the guard dogs by one of Doug Arnolds hangars with my dad.
The NW B-25 from what I saw last year has severe main spar problems the outer wings were very ‘drooped’. Its a shame that as a genuine WW2 type the B25 has not been preserved by the likes of the Newark, Coventry and Sunderland museums when they were relativly plentyfull in the uk in the early 80’s and even now. But I guess thats due to the asking prices?
Just one thing there is a hell of a lot of difference in removing say and Iraqi Mig29 for evaluation by the USAF or RAF compared to a Fury that is going to be sold for many $$$$$. Those aircraft from WW2 and the Falklands were acquired by the governments not private ineduvgals. Unless one of these goes to say a national museum of historic flight the going price should be paid.
But lets hope that those that do make it out make it into the air and at least one is left in Iraq and restored.
A Temco T-35 Buckaroo, based on the Temco(Globe) Swift, ordered in small numbers by the USAF I think. Temco took over Globe in 1947.
All courtesey of ‘Aircraft of the world 1953’.
From what I know of the late 30’s races, when the event was probably at its zenith, there were two days. First day(saturday) was a eliminating long distance race from Hatfield to Hatfield via Newcastle, Glasgow, Isle of Mann, and Bristol. There were other stops that varied each year but that was the basic route. Then on the sunday there was a public event at Hatfield and a few laps of a shorter course to the north of London. This was a very grueling race seeing most of the entrants has less than 200mph top speed.
It was also very keenly fought between deHavilland,Miles and Percival as to who’s companys machine won, and very prestigious to the winner.
Certianly worth preserving as they have been around a long time now.
Emerald are now bringing in their ATP’s so should be a few available? Or they will end up in Africa like the Andovers? Would have likes to have seen one of the old CAA machines preserved.
I think it was found at Wigton,Cumbria in 1962 and recovered by the Solway Aviation Society who passed it on to the RAFM. From what I remember if was brought by a local farmer in the late 30’s and was stored in his barn. The farmer passed on and it was then discovered and the local society was contacted. But I might be wrong  .
