Apart from the Hawker and Vickers combine most companys were ‘owned’ by their founders. But in the mid-late 30’s there were large share issues to raise capital for the forthcomming rearmamant programe.
As far as I know during WW2 this was the situation
Fairey-still run by Richard Fairey
Westland-owned by Petters, an industrial engine company
Miles- owned by the Miles brothers but Rolls-Royce had a
40odd% holding I think
Handley Page -still majourity owned and run by HP himself
Airspeed- owned by deHavillands
de Havillands -owned by the DH family
But I may be totally wrong!
Would love to see this fly more than any other current project. Prewar airliners are almost extinct apart from a few Rapides and Dragons.
One question is I assume the CAA won’t issue a CofA due to lack of type support? So I guess it would have to operate on a permit to fly as it would require a transport CofA? Clearly operating pleasure flights will be the main form of income? Will the CAA allow a permit aircraft to operate commercially?
It was around at Mexico City airport in 1969 as its pictured in ‘Veteran & Vintage Aircraft’. There is a poor picture, it looks complete but the wing skinning looks very dodgy and the paintwork is faded. No sign of any major damage from photo.
two seater XW934 is due to go to the FAST museum at Farnborough shortly. It’s not in a good cosmetic condition having been outside for 10 years but is supposed to be a very low hour frame?
Yes, the bottom Janie picture must be excluded from the competition. She isn’t “in flight”. Don’t think the A318 is vintage yet, either.
🙂
Whoops, didn’t read all the rules! And no arguments about the B52 not being vintage!!
Not taken too many warbird shots with my S5000 here are a few,
Yes A340 but you wont see it in the light this time of year, arrives around 1850. Thats the trouble with the winter so much of the interesting stuff arives after dark, roll on April.
EVA also aoperate MD11F’s on Saturday afternoon, or did last time I went up there.
Egypt Air now using A330’s, JAT used DC9 T9-AAC on saturday, plus Aeroflot 767’s on the morning flight.

Talking of Hudsons does anybody know the real id of the ‘Hudson’ that was/is outside at the entrance to the Planes of Fame museum at Chino. It was in full RAF scheme and marked as, I think, AM611? Never came up with its real id.
That would be great, yes please
Cheers

sad that we only have a few preserved in the UK now, guess they were retired too early for most of the UK preservation scene?
Looking through Wrecks&Relics 3(1968) they were mainly scrapped at Bicester. But many met their end on fire dumps, including the prototype at Stansted, and around another 20 at various bases, I will post a list if you wish?
Cracking photos, don’t see many from that era in color.
For the recored the list of show aircraft that year was.

I had the nice sight of 727 N169KT, smoke pooring out the back, inbound to Lasham as seen from my girlfriends bedroom window 🙂 . There were 7 727’s on the ground at the same time, takes me back…..

According to my jet liner production list 7Q-YKH was WFU 5/81.
A4O-AB was indeed the last civil VC10 last flight 6/7/87, now at the Brooklands museum. Any ideas when the RAF VC10’s will be retired?
