According to my jet liner production list 7Q-YKH was WFU 5/81.
A4O-AB was indeed the last civil VC10 last flight 6/7/87, now at the Brooklands museum. Any ideas when the RAF VC10’s will be retired?

Forget Gatwick , go to MAN. Gatwick has no viewing area and you are restricted to some pretty poor over the fence spotting except if you stay airside where there is a good viewing area.

Was that you ****ting about when I was trying to put her away last week? I kept the doors open but you were tripoding around and I got bored and closed them. I thought you might have died frm the response I got.

Why didn’t you come and say hello you miserable git?

If you had I would undoubtedly have been rude to you, but others have been there first and survived.

As a(the only?) ‘spotter’ who perfers the lighter side of historic aviation its not been a vintage year. PFA rally was almost a washout, wish I had gone to Legends insted(on seperate weekends in 2005, woo, hoo!!). Most of the ‘light’ flyins were a tad dissapointing. Well except the shock of seeing EVLE poking out of the hangar at Popham one wet sunday( when is the first flight Melvyn?).
Wish I had gone to the Air Britian flyin at N Weald and all those Jungmann’s 😡 . Gransden was good as was GVFWE.
Here’s to 2005, may we have a 2003 type summer!

From what I remember of G-APRJ, I assume the same Lincoln, at North Weald was a gutted fuselarge aft of the spar. It was on its side behind a hangar for a couple of years in the early 90’s. Didn’t its front end go to Lanc’s G-BCOH restoration? There were also parts of Lanc KB994? around at NW at the time. Or atleast part of the rear fuse with the serial on.

Nice shots. Spent most of this morning working under 1m final to 27r. Shame I was in a office that pointed the other way 😡 . Although I could read off reges with the naked eye from the car park, took me ages to get out of the car park 🙂 . Off to LGW for a day tomorrow.

Luckerly I saw most of the collection when I first visited in 1985. There was then a large outside collection, Connie,DC7, Caravelle’s, B17 et al. Missed the Sandringham as it was damaged the previous winter 😡 . Its a shame much of it is now stored away from public gaze. I guess its all to do with money as normal?? Did anything ever happern about the two display halls that were condemed as unsafe around 10 years a go? I think they were the WW2 and 20’s/30’s hall. Still an excellent collection though.

Yes I want to know where that hill by the runway is too. They did use some very choice long lens shots that made it look like people were standing next to the taxiway. Only later did they reveal there was a fence at the bottom of the hill.
Having worked airside at LGW reciently staff security certinally leaves a bit to be desired. I arrived with all my tools including a knife and other sharp objects and although my bag was x-rayed was not searched. I could have easily passed those on to a passenger when airside or left them somewhere. Although my main complaint was that the office I was working in only had a view of a brick wall! 😡

The chippie is alo uk registered G-BBMX based with the same owner.
Great photos nice to see some vintage ‘light’.

Had a Chinook fly at very low level over me today on a duel carriage way; scared the living bejasus out of the work-experience clone in the passenger seat! Suppose it had to be at atleast 200ft but I swear I could feel its approach over the sound of the radio and engine noise.
Has anyone been surprised by a low level historic that they weren’t expecting?

    Flood

Had a similar experience on the A303 near Boscombe coming over the brow of the hill to be confronted by a Chinook at 200ft! Also this year on the M3 being over taken by a CH-53 at about 500ft. That one did drown out the radio! On the historic front nearly cr**ed myself at Lee On Solent during seawings 2000, Canberra did a over shoot at the coast end very, very low over the road, could not see it coming due to houses! 😮

Unless it was the An22, larger than the 12 but with twin tail. These along with the C130 are pretty much the only high wing 4 props flying now. If it was the An22 you can still hear it about a week afterwards, those contra rotating props make heli of a rackett 😀 . G6hyf I would guess thats what you have heard, it sounds like nothing else. I think the An22 has been doing a few Manchester-Moscow flights which would fit with your area?
