Sounds like a An-12 to me. I think one has been operating out of East Midlands which would add up if it was europe bound. Did it look like this?http://www.farnboroughairport.biz/an12.jpg

Why are most BJs gold in colour or brown. Clintons is and Eltons and i think Rovama what-ya-call-him 737NGBBJ is gold/brown?

Abramovich’s P4-GJC is the only brown BBJ I have seen, its currently at Farnborough, its UK base. Not sure where the 767 will fly out of? Its weel abover Farnborough’s allowed aircraft size.
Also on the vip from first visit to LHR of 7O-YMN 747SP of Yeminia/Yemen Go’vt. Its been around a bit having been with Braniff,Qatar and Air Maritius!
Also don’t forget Brunei with their VIP A340’s, and 767’s.

It does look like a Aircamper but I don’t think any were built prior to the 80’s in the UK despite it being 30’s design. Have come up with nothing in the ever relilable ‘British Civil aircraft since 1919’ so I guess it was never registered which makes things very difficult.

I thought 707’s and DC8’s were now banned from the EU? All ‘chapter 2’ aircraft were banned from 2002 I think. These were BAC111,737-100,727,DC8,707,Caravelle. Only a few DC8’s with CFM engines are allowed which I think MK Cargo operate. There are still a few 727’s but these have hushkits .

EZY and RYR are completely diffrent airlines anyway. RYR are unique 1) operate to ‘alternative’/cheap airports 2) have the lowest fairs anywhere, with no compertition. Easyjet are just a slightly cheaper ‘mainline’ airline. As pointed out EZY are not much cheaper from LGW and thats where their main expansion is taking place.
On a personal point RYR fly from STN( 90min away),EZY from LGW( 30 min away) and EZY fly to proper airports so I will always choose EZY.
Oh and PS MrEasyjet LGW-FRA next pleaseeeeee.

One question I have seen a few scrap tiffie cockpit section photos, but none have the ‘front’ or ‘rear’ attached, why? Was there nothing in the cockpit of scrap value, or any other reason?

You may still be right. But it so reminded me of the wrecked Hillers at Thruxton in the 70’s. The seemed to write them off regually while crop spraying. The only thing that maked a AIII likely is the plate on the nose. Can anybody read it as thats where they pain the c/n, its certinally not a G- one as they are all accounted for.

I have to dissagree on the chopper, its a Hiller 360/UH-12E

There were quite a few registered in the uk in the late 60 and used for crop spraying. The Aoulette was very rare with only a couple imported and much larger.

It was down to defence cuts in 1976. They also got rid of the Comets and Britannias at the same time. There were no longer the units in the Far and Middle East left to support. Also it was cheaper to standardise on the C130

I have also seen the Putnam one on a dealers stall at Duxford 3 years ago for £250! Though I would never get one until I got one for £20 on Amazon, what a bargain.
Putnam book is more of type by type, Wings over Woodley is more the story side. Both great books.

My dad has some photos somewhere of them at Cowes taken from the IOW ferry, they were stored outside what I think was the hovercraft works. They were only scraped in 1969, sadly a little before the museum movement could have saved something so large.

The only time in 25 years of spotting I have been asked for id is at Farnborough, and thats only 3 times in 8 years in daily visits. Visit LHR about twice a week on business and have never been stopped. And unless you are parked in a obviously bad place you will not be bothered.
Having spoken to the police at Farnborough they had not heard of the scheme. Understandable as these are local coppers who also patrol the peremiter. They said they would also need more official id,i.e. driving licence.
So basically I see that you pay £15 for a id card, and most of us all ready have one. No security checks are done on anybody short of verifying who you are. And it does not get you into anywhere you cant all ready get into. So I will currently keep my £15.
Security at LHR has been stepped up. Today I visited a catering company in cargo( who were panicking because Virgin had switched around all the flights/aircraft!) and was througherley searched and had to book in 48hrs in advance. Two years ago I would have just walked in no problems.
I think if we are all sensible there is no need for these id cards

A unique bird that had 4 main undercarriage units, good job as on a test flight one refused to lower. Also heard that it had great wing flexability and gave the impression of gentle ‘flapping’ when in flight!
