I assume then it will be re-registering its fleet VP-C??. It is illegial in some countries for its carriers to operate foreign registered aircraft. The US was the prime example when Braniff operated Concordes with dual regies like G-N94AA etc, I am not sure that it is still the case?. As their Friday flight at AMS turned up on Sunday things can’t be going that well!
Barbados is a supprise as apart from the Dak on the fire dump there are no non airworthy aircraft on the island so no experience of looking after it. They were doing a lot of building work at the terminal on my last trip a couple of months ago so I guess it will be incorporated into that? It certianlly needs it as it airport was a S******le. It was certianlly a hell of a experience at BGi when Concorder landed. Hundreds of people all ingoring the nor parking at the end of the runway signs. The fence is only 300yds from the threashold!Excellent!
I think thay should have had a Concorde day at its birthplace,Filton. Plenty of room and easy to get to for many. You could have G-BBDG outside and as many flying as possable. BAA don’t have a clue about PR. They have obviously had no liason with BA. Anybody could see that this would be a massive event.
Its all about money from what I know. Somebody brought the site and wants to make a fortune. Its a terrible place for an airport. The topography is dangerous and is very prone to fog. LGW outbounds go over the top at 2000.
Why not utilise those places allready with hard runways Farnborough,Biggin, North Weals, Stansted and Dunsfold.
Only one good thing is we might get a viewing area as its nothing to do with the BAA!!!!
Shame as I am off to AMS this weekend to sit on the terrace for two days. Got to get up at 4am for the 0625 BMI A321 from LHR, back 2130 on Sunday on a Daily Mail ‘free'(£33 in taxes!) flights thing. Will send in a report, just hope it does not get cold!
The last complete Halifax was PN323 which existed at Radlett until the mid 60’s it was eventually scraped as there was no where for it and the nose went to the Skyframe musuem and eventually to the IWM. I would guess the Egyptians might have had the last flyer. After the Berlin Airlift most of the G- ones were scraped(last one in service 1952) but 13 were sold to Egypt in 1950 as paratroop transports.
If I look in wrecks and relics 3rd edition(1968) the loads of Horsas were used on farms around Brize Norton and Cosford.
In old issues of the Aeroplane spotter….
DH91 Albratross fuselarge survived at Burton, Wilts in 1946 along with some prewar light aircraft.
The last AW27 Ensign pre war airliners was broken up at Hamble in 1947 after all but two were flown back from the Middle East.
Believed to be the last Blackurn Roc L3084 used as a wingless engine testbed at Eastleigh summer 1946.
Last prewar flying boat was indeed the Golden Hind G-AFCI which after years of storage at Rochester was towed to Hamble for overhall in May 54 but sunk in the channel in a gale.
My dream is that one of the 20 Vickers Vimy Commercials shiped to China in 1920 and never uncrated will one day be found and reyurned home.
I have flown Virgin many times across the pond and it has always been excellent. Even on the old 747-200 things were good. Been to Barbados twice in the last 18 months and it was very good, much better than BA.
I had heard that the LGW situation was only tempoary. It was due to building work below the deck and it was due to health and safety. The BAA situation is crazy. I think that the deck at LGW a few years ago was the south’s second busiest tourist attraction in terms of number of visitors. The trouble is that they think we will just go away, we wont. I have been spotting for 26 years and don’t intend to give up now. We need to point out that they could actually make money out of us from entry changers, food and shops.
BAA now have Southampton which has gone the same way. The newish multistory carpark now has CCTV and security guards remove anybody within 5 minutes.
The trouble this attitude is spreading to light airfields too. One of my locals, Fairoaks, used to be the ulimate spotter unfiendly place now its become the norm. Redhill used to be a good place, now its no go, same with Goodwood,Stapleford,White Waltham amd Biggin Hill.
Saw the Blenhiem yesterday. Its up on tressles, outer wings and engines removed. Some damage to the underside of the fuselarge. It does not look too serious from the outside but ofcourse the effect of the structure may be a diffrent matter.

I live at Farnborough and spot everyday so I could put loads. Off to Stansted,Luton,Duxford,Cambridge and loads of light fields for the next 3 days.
I use other peoples reports to tie up my overflights. I don’t have ACARS myself as I need to go out to see the overflights as my flat just faces a line of trees. You could get a hand held ACARS at one time, but they seem to have dissapeared.
I have used the RED1 flight tracker before but as with all of them they only cover US and transatlantic flights. I use it mainly for biz jets inbound to Farnborough, but did use it while on holiday in Barbados to check to see what was due that day and when to look up from the pool!
I went on a orginazed tour of Belgrade in 1989. Superb museum if in a bit of a strange building. Lots off WW2 stuff(Spit,Hurricane,Me109 etc), some nice commercial stuff outside. JU52,Li2,DC3,Caravelle,Dove,Convair,IL14 and a Short Sealand.
We had a tour of JAT maintiance and the light aircraft. There were a couple of airforce YAK 40’s, most of the JAT fleet including ATR’s, all the DC10’s and the light stuf, Cessna 402’s,Agcats and AN2’s!
We didn’t see too much foreign visitors but did manage one of my only 2 Interflug 134’s( I saw them all after the fall of the wall at SCO).
We also did Zagreb managing to get detained by the authorities( a whole coatch of us!) for a hour. Somehow we kept braking down on the motorway opposite the Yougoslav AF AN26 ramp.
I have been after this one for many years too. For the record there were 2 G-ATBF’s
G-ATBF(1) c/n 377 ex MM19477/XB543/RCAF19477 but I beleived it was damaged before delivery to the uk so they sent..
G-ATBF(2) ex MM19607/XB733/RCAF 19607
It was originally delivered to the Historic Aircraft Preservation Soc at Biggin Hill in 1967, and was there with the lanc G-ASXX(then airworthy in 1968), I assume the whole collection moved to Blackpool, then was sold off?
This is some ‘unofficial’ ifrormation on the last day at LHR. I would hope there would be some flypasts at Filton,Fairford and Farnborough on the way?
‘As you are probably aware, Concorde is due to make its final landings at Heathrow on Friday 24 October. BA want to mark the occasion with 3 successive landings – scheduled from 1500 UTC. We have been asked by BA if (on westerlies) we could accommodate their PR by descending to 3000ft over
the City, and running the three a/c in sequence from approx. 20 miles out.’
Sounds good 3 concs in the air at the same time. I think parking will be at a premium at LHR that day. Hopefully they will be on 27R so to view from the visitors centre??
As a Farnborough resident I know more about the Lightning and the roundabout saga that draged on for years. Orgianally it was to be put on the roundabout at ‘Farnborough Gate’ at the Camberley end of town. The council denied permission due to it being a hazzard to motorists. Then the E28/39 replica got its permission to be put on a much smaller and less busy roundabout on the airport boundry. There followed a slanging match in the local press.
Personally it would have been the wrong place to put it as it is close to some undesirable housing estates ans would not have lasted too long. Thankfully the E28/39 is in a better area and so far is untoched(but its only been 10 days..).
Its nice to have some aircraft on display here to remind people that this is the birthplace of British aviation.
