Eelmoor flash is musch more silted up than it would have been in Cody’s day. The canal is still navagable but the flash as been left to nature. I think it suffered from the famous SBAC show flood of 74? When that whole end of the airfield was under water. They put a fuselarge of a ex RAE Devon in as part of the flood defences and covered it over! The bridge also gives a great view of the runway. Codys shed was located at that end, just to the north of what is the end of the current runway 06.
As for the biplane it never flew from the flash, it was just for floatation trials.
And infact he never flew it as a floatplane. He converted it back to a landplane and it was in this that he met his untimely end.

I too have a soft spot for Freighters and a question for you: Does anyone know the colors carried by G-AIMC on it’s 1947 sales tour ‘down under’? It ended up at Wau in PNG after passing through Australia and NZ IIRC. Bristol “house” colours perhaps?

There is a photo of IMC departing Sydney in 1947 in ‘British Civil Aircraft since 1919’ by AJ Jackson(1st edition) sadly i can’t scan it. But it is largely silver with(I assume) a thick dark blue line that comes up eather side from a V at the nose and goes along the top of the fuselarge and the bottom on the tail, Bristol titles on the tail and Australian flag and union flag on the nose.

Flypast says it’s FGA9 XE650. I may wander down later and see if it’s there.

Thanks very much, its not easy to see from a drive past as the ex RAE Hunter obscures it. Sadly I didn’t get time to get over there today, next weekend.

I found this on a trawl through some long lost archives. What I can tell you is that it was taken in France in July 1983 (on Kodachrome 64!). I recall, vaguely, that it was at Beauvais. Can anyone shed any further light on the aircraft history etc?

    TIA

    CM

Beauvais would be about right I saw it there a couple of times. Think it used to do horse charters out of Stansted. Sadly missed, a big loss to the UK scene.

FAST had a new Hunter F6? nose arrive Thursday/Friday, its in Blue Diamonds colors. Would anybody happen to guess at a serial for it? Will try and get a photo later on. I think a Jindivik is due also soon.

Loveley aircraft, nice shot. Just think in its day this was one of the most popular record breaking aircraft. People flew these to South Africa and Australia 😮 , must have been made of sterner stuff in those days.
EG G0ABNH flown by Lt C.Byas flew to cape Town in 10 days in 1931, and C.A Butler flew G-ABRE Croydon-Darwin in 9 days also in 1931!

Southend is very cheap parking with goom maintenance companys. The 748’s will probably be parted out?? I think they are owned by the same company who has slowly been stripping the 2 F27’s? I think one was a nav trainer in Australia so is pretty non standard.
Also forgot that the Belfast rebuild seems to be taking shape but its parked out of the way and could find nowhere for some pics.

I think LGW is the worse place for a second runway. You have to buld it to the south which means destroying the current maintiance area, catering area and a couple of business parks! Something that would not be easy, and cheap to do.
The LHR runway does involve demolishing a village but is probably cheaper! Stansted being pretty much the same. Why is London the only city to have 5 airports!

I think for this sort of thing to be a sucess you need to have the convinenance of a bizjet. I.e. no turn up 2 hours before for checkin, perhaps operate from somewhere like Northolt or Farnborough with good business terminals. Lets face it if you are going to pay several thousand for a business only flight you don’t want to have to fight Joe public at the airport.
Lufthansa allready operate A319BJ’s across the pond from hamburg I think.
