Great photos Monster.
I’m also visiting Dublin (next Monday). Would appreciate the chance to get some good video footage, I know for sure I will at Manchester, but Dublin is new territory for me.
I’ve been on two 767s, both of Air New Zealand – an 8 hour 20 minute flight between Auckland and Honolulu and a five hours five minute flight between Honolulu and Los Angeles. The type is okay, especially when you are in a window seat and there is only one other seat next to you, much better for two people travelling together I think.
Happy birthday to T5 and soilman, and everyone else who has a birthday today. Enjoy!!!:)

I saw thet plane at LCY last Friday and took a pic… When developped, I can post, but, in regards to my camera, don’t expect quality, either… (No zoom)
Bloody hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bloody awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am flying from LCY with VLM in September, I remember that livery when it was posted before and it now resides in the photos page on my Sabena club. I said then, and I say the same now, I hope it is only temporary because I do not want to fly to Belgium on a bloody flying advertising hoarding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The proper VLM livery is much classier (hope you enjoyed LCY Frank, it is a superb airport to fly from (and back to))
I would base my airline in either Liege, Brussels, Oostende or Antwerp so that my aircraft could carry the OO regsitration. It would operate to places in Britain which lost services when Sabena folded (Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast) as Belgian flights from those airports used to get busy.
I would operate the Avro RJ and possibly the ATR 72.
As for a name, I haven’t a clue!!!
A type cannot keep going for ever, even with upgraded designs. The 747 will cease to fly eventually and be replaced by a more advanced design. It will be a sad day in aviation history when the 747 stops flying.
Best of luck to them both!!!
Best of luck to them both!!!
Great question Ashley :)!!
I enjoy wine (white with chicken and pork and veal and red with lamb and beef).
Gin and tonic (very occasionally).
Orange and brandy (very occasionally).
Port (Christmas only).
My big thing is BEER!! I enjoy some British ales, especially those from the Wychwood brewery (Hobgoblin, Circle Master, Fiddler’s Elbow) and Waggledance is also nice.
I’m off to Dublin on 16th June, so I’m getting into Guinness.
But nothing in the world beats a good Belgian beer. Where should I begin???
Lagers – Maes, Jupiler, Stella.
Lambics – Mort Subite, Cantillon, De Troch, Timmerman’s.
White beers – Brugs, Dentergems, Hoegaarden.
Trappist Ales – Chimay (three types, red top, white top and blue top), Rochefort 8 and 10, Westmalle Dubbel and Tripel, Westvleteren 12 and blond.
Abbey style ales – Leffe Blond, Brune, Radieuse, Tripel and Vieille Cuvee, Tripel Karmeliet, Corsendonk Agnus and Pater, Grimbergen.
Dark Ales – Gulden Draak, Delirium Nocturnum, Kasteel.
Blond Ales – Hapkin, Duvel, Delirium Tremens, Piraat, Lucifer, Kasteel, Sloeber (beautiful beer that!!), Barbar.
Toffee-coloured beers – Bush, Kwak, Straffe Hendrik, De Koninck, Palm, Jan Van Gent.
There are too many others to mention!!!

To have real Stella you have to be in Belgium – the muck they serve up here as “Stella” is licence brewed in Luton, and therefore not the genuine Belgian beer. If you know how to identify the correct bottle you can get proper Stella in Britain – it has paper round the neck of the bottle and the words “imported from Belgium”. Maes is good though, but not always available. I don’t know what beer is served on VLM or Aer Lingus (I fly with them in 13 days).
VIASA Venezuelan Airlines!! I can just about make out the word Venezuela and Caracas in the advert.

Not strictly relevant, but I remember when you would get a hot meal, special airline chocolate and metal cuttlery on a 30 minute flight IOM-LPL. Only a decade ago!
Sabena were handing out airline chocolate back in 2001, only a couple of months before they went under. I kept the wrapper as a souvenir. They also handed out ice cream and nice fresh tasting sandwiches, and they served Belgian beer (admittedly only Stella and occasionally Maes, but as least it was bloody proper Stella).
I can’t comment much about charter airlines because I’ve only ever been on one holiday which included charter flights, back in 1974 when I was four years old!! We flew from Gatwick to Tenerife with British Airtours, the charter bit of British Airways. From a process of elimination I guess we went on a Boeing 707 but I’m not 100% certain of that. My Grandparents flew on more charter flights, usually with Britannia, and I think they were reasonably happy with them, but it was back in 1975 and 1977 when they flew with them.
I like a few Madonna songs – I used several in my Belgian holiday videos.
I used the Madonna version of “American Pie” on my Brugge 2001 video, as a backing track for in-flight footage of a Sabena flight from Manchester to Brussels. On the same holiday video I used “Live To Tell” with footage of Oostende.
In 2002 “I Deserve It” was used with Oudenaarde and Antwerp Zoo. “Gone” was used on Antwerp Zoo and Antwerp and also Spa. “Frozen” was used on Brussels and Brugge. My favourite is “Like A Prayer”, which goes wonderfully with the footage I took at London City Airport of VLM taxying and taking off.
