    Have I missed something?

I haven’t heard Blair say that the Falklands is being abandoned to Argentinian control?

And why this constant harping with dissatisfaction at the Government? We have an elected Government, I believe you are of age to exercise your vote. Or would you prefer that we become a right wing dictatorship just to satisfy you? If you’re not happy please don’t bleat and whine about it. You could stand for Parliament as an Independent Candidate. Why not give it a go? With your political views you would be guaranteed a strong element of support from every ultra right wing crank in your prospective constituency.

    Regards,

    kev35

Beckett is bending over backwards to accommodate the Argentinians, much to the disgust of Falklands veterans, that is not right-wing propaganda, that is what was reported in just about every UK daily newspaper earlier this week.

As far as exercising my vote goes, I was one of the many who did not vote this shower of a government in for another term.

And as for standing as a candidate, that is exactly what I am doing on 3rd May, albeit in a local election. I am not an Independent, I am proudly wearing the colours of my Party, which openly opposes British troops being deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and believes in keeping the Falklands British.

And please do not call us cranks, how many of us do you know personally, rather than what the media says about us?

Never mind – spineless Blair and the rest of his equally-spineless crew will back down to the Argies and give them what they want.

It’s time we had a proper government which put the interests of Britain first for a change.

They are terrible. I have flown with them several times on a multi-leg trip, and had nothing but problems. The crews were rude, you weren’t allowed to have the window blinds open so a 10 hour flight in the afternoon was spent in darkness, the food was horrid, I asked for a special meal in advance because I have a food allergy and they served me the type of stuff I told them I couldn’t eat. Their reservations staff are incompetent. We phoned to reconfirm our reservations and was told that all our flights had been cancelled. We got back on some but we were supposed to have a stop in Fiji. We didn’t get on a Fiji flight and instead ended up going straight to Honolulu instead.

One word of advice when considering the Airline from Hell – AVOID!!!

I like video games. My console of choice is the PS2, and my favourite games are Silent Hill 1,2 and 3, Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo and many others.

I also play games on my PC – flight sim, Zoo Tycoon, old Spectrum games and GBA games with an emulator.

Antwerp. We flew to and from there in 2003. No duty free shop, only one small canteen, a shop which had very infrequent opening. And as for planes – you couldn’t spot because there were no flights until our mid afternoon departure. There was literally nothing to do and nothing to see.

As a child i went to Zeebrugge and Ostend several times and used the Herald of free enterprise the year before she sunk, Can’t believe that its 20year ago.
I think at least for Europe lessons were learnt from this accident but sadly these lessons don’t seem to have been learnt in other parts of the world and at least one of “Heralds” sister ships have been involved in disasters in other parts of the world.

I remember seeing a programme on BBC1 a while ago about the disaster. It said that the German-built ferry had not been fitted with warning lights to show that the bow doors were not closed. If the other ships were built to the same poor standards then I’m not surprised that accidents happened to them. Then there was the idle b*gger who never bothered to check whether the doors were closed properly or not.

On the subject of Oostende, I’m going there on holiday this year (before I’ve only had day or half day visits from Brugge or Mechelen). I absoluely love the place, it’s the nicest coastal town I’ve been to in Belgium.

I remember that night, it was a Friday and there was a newsflash about the ferry going over just outside Zeebrugge.

Last year we had an afternoon in Zeebrugge and all I could think about was that ferry disaster and all the poor people who had drowned.

You would never get me on one of those things.

I saw them in Reykjavik in November 1991. We had decided to have a winter holiday in Iceland and hoped that we would see the Aurora, and we were lucky on one night.

You can get around in LA by public transport – I’ve had several holidays there and have never hired a car as I don’t drive!

    Visit Santa Monica (by bus).

The La Brea Tar Pits can be reached by bus and a walk along Wilshire Boulevard.

The Beverly Center is not too hard to reach by bus and has some decent food stands in there (especially jacket potatoes!)

Go to Little Toyko for superb Japanese food.

I wouldn’t recommend underground travel in LA on account of the fact that it’s an earthquake zone.
