The Vimy could operate from much shorter strips than Old Warden! Remember it has a very large wing area, and therefore alot of lift. I saw it at Old Warden and it could have taken off and landed twice on the runway easily.

I made it to Popham, shame about the weather, but well worth it for the ‘Imperial 42’ display. The tent was something else – it had a good history of Imperial Airways, loads of project and HP42 info, aircraft/engine models, etc. Best of all was the images-both stills and also film I had not seen before! They also played background music from the era which really topped off a brilliant display.

I’ll definately be going to the vintage flying weekend in a couple of weeks to see them again.

The Vimy attended Farnborough in 1994, 1996, and 1998. The big year was 1996 when it attended many arishows around the UK, and all the details for that are on the website the team have: http://www.team-merlin.com
