Don’t wanna rain on anyones parade here.
But those drawings are completly off.
For such a small fighter with so large Internal W-bay.. where does the internal fuel fit in?:)
Or perhaps it doen’t, it could do with external DT. But wait!
How can it be an 5/6 Gen fighter then!:D

So you believe than an internet poster can tell offhand by just one line-drawing what professional ADA engineers doing such configuration studies in CATIA cannot tell. Wow!

Maybe you could prove how they’re completely off? For instance, do you know which missiles are being used for space and fit studies that makes you say that its too large an internal weapons bay? Seems like it can fit 4 AMRAAM class missiles, which is quite alright, but not too large of a weapons bay.

And who told its a small fighter ? Its a twin engined airplane in the weight class of the MiG-29

Regarding the aspect ratio of the AMCA, it seems to match the model that was displayed at AI-11. Don’t Gripen fanboys always extoll its fineness ratio? Why should that hamper the AMCA? It’ll only reduce its drag versus a shorter and fatter version.

    http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_o_no4M2xEPY/TVJO5JMV84I/AAAAAAAAMdo/5KJPo58-tTU/s1600/DSC07231-780239.JPG

As for EDT, even the F-35 and F-22 can carry them if required, and the KF-X concept that the South Koreans have shown didn’t even feature an internal weapons bay, with weapons hung on external pylons instead. So, if the AMCA needs to carry EDTs in some cases, its a compromise, but something that can be dealt with in situations where absolute stealth is no longer a pre-requisite.

Tejas fighters carrying out more bombing trials at Pokhran range with PGMs and dumb bombs.

Pokhran, which witnessed the celebration of India’s nuclear might, is now witnessing a different scene: Made-in-India Tejas fighter jets are demonstrating their fire power here.

Three of these military jets have been taking off from forward Air Force bases to pound the area with a variety of armaments-from precision guided bombs to conventional bombs weighing up to 500 kg.

These exercises constitute the most important phase ahead of their formal induction by the Indian Air Force and are intended to ensure that the bombs are released and hit targets on the ground with accuracy. The IAF will acquire 40 of these fighters with the first squadron set to be positioned in Tamil Nadu.

Another PAF Mirage crashes in Balochistan. Pilot ejects safely

    PAF Mirage crashes in Balochistan

KARACHI: A Pakistani fighter jet crashed in the south of the country Tuesday while on routine training but the pilot ejected safely and there were no casualties on the ground, an air force official said.

The French-built Mirage jet took off from the Pakistan Air Force’s Masroor Base in Arabian Sea port city of Karachi and crashed near the town of Uthal in Balochistan, air force spokesman Squadron Leader Mohammad Nadeem told AFP.

Uthal is around 60 kilometres west of Karachi.

“The pilot ejected successfully and safely,” the spokesman said, adding the cause of the accident would be determined after an investigation.

No loss of civilian life or property was reported on ground, he said.

It was the second Mirage aircraft crash in the region in a month. A Mirage-V crashed on May 11 while its pilot ejected safely as well.

IAF Akash SAM tested successfully again..

They’ve now tested several random production batch samples of the Akash for the IA and IAF 5 separate times with only 1 missile suffering a glitch.

BALASORE: Defence scientists on Wednesday successfully test fired the indigenously-developed Air Force version of the Akash missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur near here. This was the fifth trial of the anti-aircraft system in the last fortnight.

“The Air Force version of Akash missile was test-fired from the ITR. The trial was successful and met all the mission objectives,” a senior defence official said.

The anti-aircraft missile, with a strike range of 25 km and capable of carrying warhead of 60 kg, was test fired from a mobile launcher at launch complex-III of the ITR.

The trial, which formed part of the country’s routine air defence exercises, was conducted at 7.57 am, an official of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) associated with the Akash missile project said.

To re-validate the technology and operational efficacy of the missile, defence forces conducted the trial with logistic support provided by the ITR, the official said. The Akash weapon system, which has its Army version too, was inducted into the armed forces in 2008.

Wednesday’s test-fire came after similar trials conducted from the same test range on May 24, 26, 28 and June 1On June 1, two Air force version of Akash missiles had been test fired successfully in quick succession, the official said.

India may have some money in dollars or Euros it could use and for a contract so big it could probably negotiate terms of payment, End of the year may also give the rupee enough time to recover slightly.

anyway by then the euro might have crashed to the bottom!

The problem is that the deal cost will inflate a lot due to the weak rupee. The MoD will be really hoping that a weak Euro may offset some of the increase.

the French Embassy hopes that the Rafale deal will be signed by the end of 2012. I have grave doubts about that, especially considering the rupee going weak so sharply. The deal price will go up significantly for India as a result of that.

    SOURCE:sunday-guardian.com

Indian Air Force’s single largest contract for 126 fighters is yet to be signed. The French embassy has said that they are hopeful that the contract to buy the French Rafale aircraft will be signed by the end of this year. French company Dassault Aviation was chosen to supply the 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) for the IAF for a deal worth approximately $18 billion. Rafale was declared the winner of a five-year long contest on 31 January 2012.

Presently the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Dassault Aviation are engaged in the final negotiations of the deal. When this newspaper contacted Dassault Aviation, there was no response on the matter.

The French embassy told this newspaper, “Indian authorities and Dassault are currently negotiating and finalising all aspects of the Rafale contract in detail: technical definitions, terms and conditions, transfers of technologies and offsets. This discussion, which is complex by nature, is still going on. The final contract will comprise thousands of pages and everything has to be perfectly clear and defined before it is signed.”

France saw a change of guard last month when François Hollande took over as the new French President from Nicolas Sarkozy, about which the French embassy in India has said that the change of government in France will have no influence on the nature of Indo-French strategic relations and French commitment towards India. Being technical and non-political, the Rafale deal will not be influenced by the democratic changeover in France, the embassy added.

Former IAF chief S. Krishnaswamy told this newspaper, “There must be good reason for it to be delayed. There’s no need to rush, as the deal is big and complex and little delays don’t matter.”

The Mirages were mostly operating near their Bingo fuel level which often enabled them hardly more than turn and dash away. Count in the all-aspect AIM-9L vs rear-aspect-only AIM-9B missiles and you got a clear winner.

I think things were greatly in favor for the SHARs, perhaps too greatly to make a comparison of the particular aircraft, but nevertheless, the RN jocks (an the whole Navy) did a great job given the limited resources at hand, no doubt.

yes I know what constraints the Mirages faced.

But it would be wrong to suggest those constraints alone defined the outcome of the aerial combat- the SHars themselves made the best use of a limited carrier capability, and at times with limited fuel themselves since the carriers were being placed far away to keep them safe from Exocet launches..and what it did, no other aircraft of its time could’ve done. Essentially, without the SHars, the Mirages would’ve faced no opposition at all. That factor alone deserves a mention.

    What a beautiful painting !

And a fitting reply to that rather stupid remark that Nic made (rather uncharacteristic of him though)..the Sea Harrier, that STOVL legend, was limited in its capabilities thanks to its design for a special ability, but it did prove its mettle in Falklands when it downed Mirages that were touted as far superior overall.
