Beautiful! Nice to see a non standard camouflage scheme on a western fighter.
J-20 is a paradigm shift in technology. Fighting J-20 with MKI would be suicidal. Pretending it will be the same old status quo just proves Darwin’s Theory is alive and well in 2018.
So Madrat, you believe that an internet poster like yourself knows better about this than a professional air force whose men and women’s lives are on the line, one that flies hundreds of 4th gen combat jets, knows the in and outs of its fighters including their acquisition ranges against various types of targets having different RCS? An air force whose job is to defend the nation against China and its J-20? And you believe that they’re sitting there blissfully unaware of how dangerous the J-20 may be?
The IAF, like every other armed service, does one thing very well, in order to gain political support for bigger budget- it makes the political class aware of the level of threat it faces. The fact that they’re UNDERPLAYING the J-20 threat says a lot. I would’ve expected them to OVERSTATE the J-20 threat in order to expedite fighter purchases and S-400 contract signature.
Thanks bring_it_on.
So 9 jets per year for 2018 and 11 per year from 2011 to 2014 and 8 per year for 2015. At that rate, they’ll manage to deliver all the backlog aircraft only in 10 years’ time, i.e. by 2028.
Why such a slow rate of production?
I appreciate that this does not mean a definite sale but it does raise the question for me of where and when the aircraft would be produced. Please correct me if I’m wrong in thinking that no F-16 production faciilty exists.
Exists in Greenville, North Carolina and will assemble Bahrain’s F-16Vs.
One question to those who may know more about Rafale production rates:
What was the Rafale production rate from 2013 onwards? And when the ramp up was supposed to start, how long did it take to achieve the ramp up in production rates? What is the current production rate and what is target rate for 2019-2022?
Has Dassault been able to scale up production rates after winning the 3 export orders? Or has it been slow because their suppliers are finding it hard to ramp up their production rates?
The decision on whether to pursue the FGFA (which was a IAF specific variant of the T-50 PAK-FA) is no longer in the IAF’s hands. They made their classified briefings to the MoD and the MoD also had its Air Marshal Varthaman committee report to look at. We do not know for sure what the IAF’s classified briefings to the MoD on this matter was. So far its only speculation on the part of the media based on “anonymous sources”. Which means that we will only find out what happens, when it happens. As was the case with the Single Engine Fighter program where all sorts of speculation was made, till the Defence Minister basically had a press conference where she announced that this program was being dumped in favor of the Tejas and its future variants.
IR homing missile didn’t trigger any warnings for the Saudi pilot onboard the F-15? Does it lack MAWS? No flares were visible, so it seems the pilot wasn’t aware of the launch. But the F-15 did get away didn’t it?
IAF Su-30MKI over Dubai
