hi there Y-20 Bacon, we are actually discussing basic maneuverability i.e. wvr, gun fight.
However, to humor you here, J-7Gs do have HOBS capability and can use the SD-10, albeit not to its max range (usable only up to about 40-50 km).
Again, that takes us to a very different discussion here.
J-7Gs can use the SD-10? Proof please.
Although I do know for certain that the J-8F Finback can carry the SD-10..:D
What do you expect the chief test pilot that works for the company to say. He ends up being little more than a rah rah cheerleader for the airplane and the company.
BTW I am a bed rock conservative, and want our pilots to have the very best tools possible. I want ALL our pilots to come home after EVERY combat engagement!!!!!!
Well, if you want to ignore the Test Pilot on the basis that he’s a company test pilot, then that pretty much means most observations made on most aircraft are irrelevant, since they generally come from people associated with the program, who have intimate knowledge of the program..people not associated with the program hardly have all the info to be able to make a judgement.
May I recommend a change in the thread title. It should say –
David Axe says report says test pilot says “F-35 can’t dogfight”
Wait till Bill Sweetman gets a hand on the David Axe article..AviationWeek will have another article extolling the 6th gen Gripen E/F and trashing the F-35..:D
i think a J-8 upgraded with new engines, aesa, and sd-10 could totally destroy the f-5 and j-7! and there’s lots of cheap j-8s around.
lol !
Ignore the troll Neerav. One almost feels sorry for people like him.
Anyway, on to other news, the Light Combat Helicopter is now one step closer to IOC.

LCH clears critical hot weather trials held in Jodhpur, Rajasthan
BENGALURU: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited’s (HAL) indigenously designed and developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) attained a milestone by successfully completing hot weather flight trials for a nearly one week at Jodhpur recently.
LCH prototype, TD-3 was ferried from Bengaluru to Jodhpur to achieve the trials.“Test flights were carried out in the temperature range of 39 to 42 degree Celsius. These were done with the involvement of customer pilots from Indian Air Force and Army in presence of representatives from RCMA and DGAQA”, said HAL’s CMD T Suvarana Raju.
According to HAL, the flight testing covered ‘temperature survey of engine bay and hydraulic system’, ‘assessment of performance’, ‘handling qualities and loads’ at different ‘all up weights’, ‘low speed handling’ and ‘height-velocity diagram establishment’.
…
Note- work share in the FGFA.
That is not the same as work-share in the actual T-50, which the FGFA is….basically an Indianized version of.
Depending on what integreation/development/localized production costs are, 50% might not be that crazy.
As a share of the entire project obviously that number is fantasy x 10.
Thought they dropped the two-seater idea, was foolish from the start IMO.
Also:
“”IAF questions the indigenous development aspect in this skewed ratio. The AL-41 engine, which is supposed to power the FGFA, is not yet developed. AL-31, which powers the Su-30 MK, is not capable of supersonic cruise. Avionics, including active electronically scanned array radar, do not have any visibility.””
Not even going to try to decipher this…
Don’t worry yourself over Desi Dork Media quotes TR1..they themselves probably don’t have a clue what the IAF “source” stated and then put it in their own words.
