    RE: Northrop N-3PB Found

Well, let’s hope somebody has an interest in it, so it can be preserved.

Shot during the last passenger flight of the DDA DC-4. A shame it is gone thanks to the Dutch CAA. The CAA’s new plans are now to destroy all Dutch airshows, and they have almost succeeded, but that is another story.

Guess what, it is delayed again! Looks only a temporarily problem. Still hopes to see it in holland during September. By the way, the UK bound DC-4 is (stuck ?) in Kansas. Its eta now unknown.

Miss those aircraft. Living next to Valkenburg NAS, they came several times a year when the tulips and other flowers were growing, filled with American military (and family) on scenic tours to Holland. The C-118’ns and the Carvairs are the propliners I saw so very often in those years. A shame no Carvair was ever preserved in the UK.

It is not only the DC-4, several Dakota’s are also playing a role, so keep an eye on those too. To update FlyPast, at the time of this information ‘came out’ , Duxford was mentioned, but now North Weald is also named. Apart from this, if everything goes according plan, the Constellation starts for its journey tomorrow morning, with an eta late saturday in Holland, so prepare for a stopover, or a flypast in/over the UK!

    RE: Lakebed Superfortress Discovered

    Hi Steve,

It is in the Westerschelde (rather salty water), but it is most likely covered in sand. I have the following data. After the “landing’ it floated for at least 30 (others say 90)minutes, so it must be rather intact. It was never raised, so it still must be there, and its location is near the village of Ritthem. It was based at Lakenheath, and participated that day in “Operation Dagger”.

It is the largest unrecovered aircraft wreck in Holland, and it is also the most unknown one. If Cees knows about it ? I don’t know, but I guess so. I wrote an article on it in the biggest Dutch aviation magazine, (May 2001) so the story is “out”, at least in Holland.

    Best wishes, Roger

Maybe this sound strange, but here in Holland we also have a complete B-29 , lying in 60 meters deep water. No one cares for it, and no one is interested in raising it, although it is basicly complete. It ditched here in 1948 (sept 3) and is 44-62100.

I was told it was on sept 14 & 15, but I can not however find an “official” confirmation. Couldn’t found anything on theur site either when I checked a week ago.

    RE: Mystery Italian Jet

I photographed this example a few weeks ago over Madrid, where they have one flying in its airforce livery.

RE: What was your first flight?

KLM DC-9 PH-DNL October 16 1971 on a flight from Amsterdam to Malaga. While on the runway the aircraft accelerated for a while and then drove back to the gate because it had problems with an engine. Departed three hours later. Back a week later with a Martinair Dc-9 PH-MAX

RE: Your fav place in the world?

Spain, everywhere but especially the Madrid aerea, Malta, Arizona & Hawaii. If I had to live anywhere else (I live in Holland), it would be in Belgium or (more likely because I detest the cold, snow and ice)Spain.
