Well I still like the idea of approaching the owner ans asking if he/they would entertain a helping hand and commitment from a couple of chaps who want nothing more than to help with the upkeep of the aircraft and possibly bring in more visitors etc. If you don’t ask, you will never know right!

Why wont the owner loan out the aircraft, he is obviously keep in aviation so thats would be the sensible thing. Some one should approach the owner the worst they will say is no, no harm done.

Me + merkle would love thos meteors

I actually feel realy upset and shocked by this comment, now should i throw in the town at let wz fall along with merkle. I am very to this and i have lots of views being younger than most here i will be the future of this industry.

Now shame on you for making such a comment you should be supporting people like me and merkle, i dont see you saving any airfields/cockpits.

wonder if lasham would mind a Forum gang going down to kive them a clean up , rather than let them decay any more, just to clean up any green mould
and any rust spots to be cured, and a little oiling of parts to keep the rust at bay ,
    what say you members ???
we all Talk about it, but would it hurt for a day to help them clean up some of there aircraft Mob handed ???:D

A great idea i would certainly join in i doubt they would let us do such a thing tho, a bunch of people they have never meet come and “attack” there planes

I have belief in what we are doing.

I hope so else it is doomed

    Airframe Collecting Policy

    1. Airframes at risk
    2. Airframes related to the NW – especially Bae/EE types
    3. Rescue Helicopters (RAF MRS was jointly formed at Millom)
    4. Airship material – large connections to NW
    5. Aircraft that have a dual civil/military role – ie 748
    6. Personnel projects – that covers everything else as the museum is a personnel project for most of us

    Head over heels

Never, No creditors, owns most of the buildings etc, stands on its own two feet. Collection is also protected from creditors etc.

Thanks for answering, so what you saying is you collect everything?

Lets just hope im not proven right

    Only one 😀 😀

I have spoken to others who share the same view, look at early pics of duxford they grew slowly (i mean the IWM section not TFC, HAC, ARCO e.t.c)

Nearly every other post in this thread is about milliom buying things it shouldnt be about that, the airframs arnt in amazing condition so its going to take time and money etc to get them to a good startard. If this folds it wont look very good.

Thats what me and merkle have a fear off so we plan to go slowly

This isnt a dig i am voicing some worries i have.

Also contradictory ‘668 in that you are after a PR.9 front and they didn’t have anything to do with WZ or SW aviation!

    Thats for a personal project

Hmmm a tad paradoxical there 668…..

You complain about their collecting policy yet admit the stuff they have in the main saved from the scrapman you say must be preserved? Usually Millom have been the last group to be offered stuff before being melted down – they have at least granted it a stay of execution.

From my experience you tend not to look a gift horse in the mouth. If someone offers you a plane you take it! Then once you have it safely stored you can decide if it is something you want to keep or failing that it is a bargaining chip to exchange for something you do.

Finally, you do know Millom has several sites that cover all aspects of aviation and that the unrestored airframes are only going to the restoration facility?

    Jon

Ok i possibly did jump the gun, after looking at there website/s i didnt know that. But its all well and good being offered a plane but do you have the man power/resources/money and all those other things to restore it?

sadly no tornados, but i know matt is desperately looking for any cockpit,

Haha getting very desperate lol 😀

i really want to know the collecting policy, if this museum goes head over heels we could loose so much.

As they say its better not to have all your eggs in one basket (i think)

In a way its good that your saving airframes but i am quite disapointed your going out and buying this that and the other. Its not a way a museum should work in my eyes, and as im getting involoved in the wz museum its a massive learning curve. We will stick to our collecting policy as that what will interest the people who visit us, raf millom should have local airframes/exhibits. Museums on the duxford scale are in a different league.

Merkle has highlited a very good point

Just spotted this on the BBC website. A sympathetic development including renovation of hangars and the Officer?s Mess? Blimey! If you?re going to develop an old airfield this has to be the way to do it; other developers take note!

Well its a bit hard for us seeing as we dont have any buildings at all!
