I read elsewhere that the Comet and Trident were scrapped several weeks ago. A preservation group tried to save the Trident nose and other parts but they were not allowed to use the cutting gear they had, so both aircraft were scrapped. 🙁

The reason being given for the breakdown is that because a routine 30 day checkup wasn’t made, the system automatically shut down. The ATC controllers union says that ‘there were 5 near misses’ 🙁

A book to read on the subject of the Dutch people’s bravery and support at Arnhem is ‘I Was A Stranger’ by Brig. Sir John Hackett. He was hidden and nursed back from near death by a Dutch family. After more than 3 months he was fit enough to be passed down one of the resistance escape routes to freedom.

I understood that it had stood outside for years (China Lake?) and was restored to flying condition to cross the pond. When I saw it at Duxford first it looked OK but it again stood outside for some years until the AAM was built.
