I was under the impression that your average European airport operated it’s security screening far more strictly than your average US airport, pre 11/9 ?

Wasn’t catching a US internal flight a bit like catching a bus ?

Very true but lessons have been learned. I for one would be happy to remove my shoes when passing through security channels or leave my checked baggage unlocked (as you must now do in certain US airports) if it will contribute to improving the security of the flight.

Excellent shots! I hear Abramovich has also acquired a 763 for conversion to a business jet with security systems second only to Air Force One, as if one BBJ wasn’t enough.

I think that is a very newsworthy state of affairs. It may have been sensationalist, but at least it got the point across.

I have to agree with this. I know airport security is never going to be foulproof, but if this prompts BHX management to review their security procedures then I’m all for it. In light of 9/11, American airports seem to have much tighter security checks than European ones yet European ones are no less susceptible to terrorist attacks.

Of course newspapers will sensationalise this type of thing, it’s a fact of life. However, I’d rather this type of thing got published than think that undercover journalism was dead. As for the journalist, it’s probably nothing to dent his reputation on Fleet Street.

I can assure you that i flew FRA – SIN and BKK – FRA on LH 744s, and they had no PTVs… I won’t even talk about Thai’s 743…

That’s LH’s IFE for you! BA’s and VS’s 744 all have PTVs – BAs have approx 16 TV channels and 10 audio channels to choose from, though only games in World Traveller Plus.

Have a great time in the States.

Well, I’m leaving too (could someone please ask me to stay?!… ). No one replies to my threads as well (oh pleeease pleeease, I need attention, can’t you see...), and I feel I’m not wanted here (oh golly gosh darn, someone hold my hand and tell me that I make a difference in this world and that “I’ll never let go…” )… boo hoo hoo

P.S.: Watch out for my return a week later under completely new management and a brand spanking new name!! :p

I have little patience with people making a fuss about leaving the forum. As my mom says: “the door swings both ways sweety, don’t be a drama queen -telling me everytime you leave and come back!”

LOL 😀 Maybe if you criticised either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport from time to time 😉

Just found out one of the airlines is Siberia airlines.

So says the BBC report above…

Russian air company Sibir said it owned the plane.

And free now from the BAA?

Surely that is PIK’s greatest asset. To be honest, the GLA/EDI debates on here can get a little repetitive to us southerners (ahem!). It would be just as easy to start MAN/LPL, BHX/EMA, BRS/CWL or LTN/STN arguments which would probably bore the socks off most Scots. What’s the point in arguing?

Surely what locos have done is clarify pricing structures, particularly for one-way flights. For example, I booked a return flight with BA (LHR-MAN-LHR) a few weeks ago. The total cost was £64. Just out of interest I checked the price of a one-way flight. A one-way flight LHR-MAN on BA in November was coming in at over £190. Where’s the logic in charging over three times for a one-way flight than a return, if the passenger only wishes to fly one-way?

What was he doing reading porn in flight in the first place? Surely the Braathens inflight magazine provides sufficient excitement?!

Great shots – I particularly like the Privatair and the landing shots at St Louis

The 732s (G-SBEA, -EB) were ex-BY models which were also operated by AMY in the mid-1990s. They are now operated by Westjet. They were owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic.

The TriStars were also owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic.

Wasn’t Peach Air affiliated to Caledonian? And wasn’t it ironic that CHEAP is an anagram of PEACH? 😀

True, as well as the routes to Beirut/Damascus/Aleppo. This is so-called ethnical travel, we have lots and lots of immigrants from the Balkans and Lebanon/Syria. JAT and Syrianair have had routes to Stockholm for several years.

I understood that these sort of routes attract a high number of economy passengers yet few business passengers, hence, using a loco sub saves money as there’s no business class.

What about the long haul routes? Will these also become loco or will EI try to strip these out of the European ops?

I used to live over the LHR flightpath in south west London. The sound of SST at approx 5:00pm and 8:30pm every day was a reminder of a what great aircraft it was, as was the image of the delta wing at approx 4,000 feet overhead. The suspension of SST flights after the AF crash made the skies noticably quieter (I moved out of the area before SST’s retirement).
