A pity. I understood the Welsh Assembly is considering financing local air services, particularly between North and South Wales, so hopefully new services in Wales may be imminent at some future date.

Excellent photos – I love aircraft from the early jet era. Thanks for sharing these.

I don’t think Boeing will compete with the A380.

I agree that competing isn’t the right word. Wasn’t ANA involved in a proposed 747 extension consultation a couple of years ago?

No surprise when you find out the majority of those involved in this anti-trust board are french or french speaking

And for that reason allowed Swissair to take over Sabena. Not that it helped much in the end… 😉

I wouldn’t be too surprised if Boeing did develop an extended 747 to compete with the 380. It’s something that’s been under development for a while I think, albeit on an on-off basis. However, I could only see it working if customers requested it (much like the 753 and 764).

Anyway…. I’ve noticed this in a number of written articles, what is this: “(sic)”

    Used in instances like:

“Then (the plane) just banked to the left sharp (sic) and then started to go down,” Mr Stevens said”

“Sic” is used to quote exactly what was said/written (e.g. in the cases of poor grammar). Or as Dictionary.com says:

Sic – Thus; so. Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially one containing an error or unconventional spelling, has been retained in its original form or written intentionally.”

I doubt it’s from a DC10. Only the Dc10-40 had JT9Ds and these were only operated by JAL and Northwest. BA(ie. BCAL) Dc10s had CF6 engines..

Think you’re right on the engine type, but not the a/c. Could it be the CF6 from a DC10-30 then?

LOL – great experiment. I certainly won’t be driving my car into a 58,000 lb crosswind 😀

    The 211 certainly does.

I’m surprised you didn’t know that…. having sat on 2 of them for 4 years!

He he 🙂 As does the Trent here and here.

Some of us who are more mature in years will remember the days when Iberia served the Barcelona/Madrid route ex MAN with DC9-32s. 😎

I remember those days, and the 727s. Thinking back, one of my first memories of spotting was seeing an Alitalia DC9 and an Aeroflot Tu134 at MAN.

    I think it may be a P&W JT9D from a DC10:

Nice photos. Is Iberia using the 321 to BCN and MAD now that the Air Nostrum CRJ flights have ceased?

Perhaps Virgin Blue for the rumoured west coast USA services?
