But its true! Y has it suddenly increased to 3 minutes? Anyone know? My point remains, what is this obsession with public displays of silence? If you want to pause in your life to think about thngs like that, fine,go nuts. But y do some people expect to impose it on everyone else,in public? Surely its a matter of personal choice, whether or not 1 stops their activities in public,to think about something? It seems there is a growing need with some people to engage in recreational grief.I can understand people who have some kind of personal involvement in this disaster doing it,but the majority of people I see going on about this, upon questioning, admit this disaster had nothing to do with them!
It seems to be a big insecurity in some people, that is only dealt with by engaging in public recreational grief (even if they had nothing to do with it),in some morbid bid to publicly out do each other to show their sympathy! Individual sympathy for disaster victims is fine, but I have to wonder about people who feel a need to publicly out do each other in a bid to make a show of it.

In world war one the men went out to fight and defend their countries from an invader. They went out and millions from all sides never returned: many were never found. The vacationing victims of the earthquake went out there expecting a good time, and many of those lost might never be found – but at least they were not forced to be there, unlike those soldiers (or the thousands of local victims). Chances are that you haven’t a clue about what happened in Europe between 1914 and 1918 – so please don’t display your ignorence here – Nermal

You don’t think it might give the wrong impression to say they walked into your house? If the doors were really left open then you’d not have anyone but yourself to blame (although I doubt that this is the case).

I think it’s a bit naff to have Peter Cook at No1, when Dudley Moore does not even feature in the list, as to me, it was the two of them TOGETHER that made them funny, but that’s just my humble opinion.

But then there is Eric Morcambe yet no Ernie Wise. Peter Cook had much much more of a solo act than Eric Morcambe. Maybe the list was about influences, like who you would think of first – and both Cook and Morcambe were the biggest creative element of their partnerships. – Nermal

Reporters/journalists/programme makers get your act together.

And not the consuming public, then? Which is the biggest selling daily ‘newspaper’ in Britain and what is the majority of its content about?
If the public didn’t want it they wouldn’t buy it; but they either don’t care too much, or are avidly rivited to these idiots and their pantomime lifestyle, and therefore the TV companies are trying to keep up with what appears to be what the publics interested in.

R4118’s rebuild would have made a terrific programme.

Maybe to you, I, and the rest of the members of these forum, but it would carry just a hint of interest to the viewers and they’d have forgotten it within ten minutes anyway. – Nermal
