Hi Gareth,
That’s another possibility. From what I have read so far most Audaxes that had de-rated engines were used in the Middle or Far East.
I’ll see if the Rolls-Royce website has any ideas. I’ll even drop them an e-mail.
Alex
That’s a possibillity I can consider. I’ll see if I can come up with any further info.

Hi Guys,
Very interesting discussion.
If you check out this link
http://www.historic-battles.com/Articles/Aircraft_Designations_WW2.htm
Scroll down to the RAF section and it tells you how all the names came about. There is a small paragraph on the Dakota.

Hi,
Isn’t there another Demon in Australia undergoing a rebuild. I saw a photo of the fuselage the other day, can’t remember where though.
Alex
How about Winged Samuri?
Hi Guys,
These photos have been posted on the airwarfareforum. Try this link. It should work.
Alex
Nice photos 😉
Pity about the hanger 🙁
I haven’t decided if I am going yet. With the roadworks on the Forth Road bridge long delays are inevitable. I could go via Kincardine but that adds another hour to the journey, becuase there’s roadworks on that route as well.
When the Blenheim bomber was up at East Fortune a few years ago it stayed overnight at Glenrothes Airport, just five minutes from my doorstep. So that’s one possibility for an aircraft to stay over.

I’ll second ‘Pat’ Pattle.
If he had survived the Greek Campaign I reckon he would have went on to greater things at the controls of a Spitfire.
RobAnt beat me to the post.
How many lancs were used in the film and where are they now?
Alex
Hi,
Have you tried a post on the RAF Commands forum?
The guys there are very helpful.

Hi,
This is from memory so I’m not sure how accurate it is.
Weren’t the Finns flying earlier model Buffaloes that were lighter and more manoeverable than the later models the RAF flew?
They weren’t called Buffaloes in Finnish service, they were simply known by their model/export number.

Hi Keith,
20 Sqn operated Wapitis from 1932-35, Hawker Audax from 1935-1941 and Lysanders there after. That’s about all I know so far.
I am interested in operations over the North West Frontier with any squadrons that operated Hawker biplanes, such as the Audax, Hart, Hind etc,.
Did Mr Rowe operate Audaxes over the NWF?
Alex
Hi,
I believe the one you want in number 72.
Alex
I do know that the Egyptians operated some Halifaxes until the fifties. Never knew they used Lancs, but then again I never bothered to check the latter :diablo:
Cheers
Cees
They also used the Stirling as well. I have details of the Stirling and Halifax in Egyptian service but very little on the Lanc.
