looking at the size of the missiles on the side.. and the bay doors.

    looks like it would have

2 small side bays for 1 missile

and probably 1 large bay on the bottom. doesnt look wide enough to fit 2 side by side

To admit – and I’m sure some won’t like my opinion – I’m more impressed than by the Tempest.

IAF plans to arm its Su-30MKI fleet with i-Derby-ER BVRAAMs

What is the range of I Derby ER?
    that link says 100KM

but then it also says its 80% of the Meteor’s capability, which should be over 100KM

For Naval operations STOVL has three big advantages (which is not trivialise the cost, range and payload penalties which ARE significant).

The flat top does not have to turn into the wind for launch. That’s not just a convenience issue it can make the path and location of said carrier and its escorts far less predictable.
‘Stopping and then landing’ rather than ‘landing and then stopping’ imposes less (and fewer) stresses on the airframe and is supposedly an easier skill to master (I’ve never tried either method outside of a consumer simulator so I cannot claim great personal insight).
Operations can continue in far less benign weather conditions (not an issue on the pacific which is pacific but it was certainly a factor down south in the winter).

while LMFS and FBW are debating.. it does seem like the only consensus here? is Naval operations has some advantages for STOVL
not so much for land based operations

not sure why they bought Golden Eagles when they already have Gripens. couldn’t they just use the twin seater as the trainer?

Switzerland thus far can’t mantain a 24/ QRA because 24/7 QRA wasn’t required before 2014. Not because there aren’t enough airframes. It’s currently being implemented, to be completed before the end of 2020 – as it says in the link you posted above.
You don’t need more than 24 airframes for that.

30-40 jets are required for round the clock CAP for some days, as specified in official requirements.

I agree though that this is not about air dominance. Not even proper air defence – 60-70 fighters are required to provide credible air defence.
Besides 24/7 QRA and limited CAP, the 30-40 fighters should allow to regain knowledge in the fields of A/G and recce, lost in 1994 and 2003 resp.

if all Switzerland needs is simply just numbers capable of doing QRA and CAP all the time, they should just go for the cheapest one.
and I guess out of that list, it would be the Gripen.

I think globally, unless youre the Saudis.. there’s not much a global demand for tanks these days.
also tank development hasn’t been as fast as aircraft ones either.

you can still be quite effective with an M60 or T-72 than with an F-4 or MiG-21

    STEALTH MiG-17 FIRST FLIGHT

Legendary Russian aircraft Manufacturer, Mikoyan Gurevich, unveiled the Stealth MiG-17 at its plant in Nizhny Novgorod.
According to UAC representative, Bolshoy Khleb, the MiG-17 Stealth is not the same aircraft that dominated American fighters over the skies of Vietnam.
Instead, Khleb states that this is an evolutionary model, utilizing the same materials as the Su-57.

While it is unknown whether the MiG-17 stealth will be adopted into Russian service, Chief designer, Dr. Seksualnaya Zadnista, indicated that the aircraft will be produced for exports.
‘ There are may countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America that want a 5th generation aircraft but can’t afford them. This aircraft will fill that special niche and can compete well against more expensive jets from China or the west. Although the airframe is classical, the materials are the same as the Su-57. Additionally, our aircraft emits zero radar signals, making it difficult to intercept’
