But how many more people would vote Lib-Dem (say) if their votes were all to count in a PR system?

On the whole I tend to favour a system closer to PR; it seems to work for countries like Germany…

…but I don’t think absolute democracy is workable.

Tried to ‘verify’ one of my e-mail accounts and had to sign-in to do that but BT Yahoo wouldn’t accept my password even though I’d just changed it (so knew what it was) so I couldn’t verify the account…

…after two hours of this I was INCANDESCENT WITH RAGE!!! 😡

Finally phoned BT Yahoo technical support after finding number ‘hidden’ on the back of my bill (why not on website? :rolleyes:) and somebody halfway around the world fixed the problem for me remotely. I watched, and they did exactly what I had been doing for two hours but for them it worked!

I tried to vent my anger on their ‘customer satisfaction survey’ and thought that if I really said how bad my experience had been they may actually take notice…

…only to have my carefully considered rant rejected as it took me more than twenty minutes to fill in!

As a matter of idle curiosity….what type of air dropped weapon is this supposed to be?

Is it not strange how the bomb ends in a parallel cylinder; was that common for German (or any) bombs? :confused:

Possibly it has a thin casing and the end has been lost, and the contents too, in the crash?

Did Thameshaven exist in 1940?

Edit: In answer to my own question; ‘Thameshaven’ certainly did exist in 1940 and oil storage and refining had been going on there, and at nearby Shell Haven, since the First World War; in fact they were apparently targeted during the Second World War. Strangely I had assumed this was a much more modern development and it seemed out of place in a combat report from 1940.

The simple answer to your question has to be that you don’t need one. As far as I’m aware you only need your current UK passport to travel anywhere within the EU without any restrictions whatsoever. And then you’ll only really need it at the airport and to get back into the UK; within the EU land borders simply don’t seem to exist anymore.

In fact this led to one of the more effective countermeasures in that misinformation was fed to the Germans increasing the number that had allegedly flown on past the capital and under-reporting the number to fall short so that the launch teams progressively screwed the range back to get more on target and in doing so actually ensured more fell short.

Interestingly Herbert Morrison (shelter) vetoed the plan to supply the Germans with misleading impact data on the grounds that it would be ‘playing god’. However, British Intelligence (Scientific and MI5) quietly ignored the veto (and also managed to preserved the credibility of German ‘spies’) possibly saving as many as 2750 lives from V-1 falling in more central London.
