I am way outside the league some of the other guys who post some very professional looking images on this forum

    That’s NOT True.

    Rob,
Fantastic, these images are a great improvement over what you have produced before. The second EZY appears to me to be the ‘cleanest’ shot, so well done. Keep up the good work and keep practicing, practicing, practicing.

    Stu,
Many thanks for such a detailed response. It was most kind of you.
I heard from reading around that the wind direction frequently changes half way through the day, so it is common for the arrivals and departures to change from one runway to another during the day.
I am going to rent a car whilst in the Algarve, and I shall be visiting the airport on a Tuesday. First impressions are that the traffic isn’t brilliant that day. Did you manage to be there on a Tuesday? How did you find it?
Once again many thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. By all means you can join me if you so wish πŸ™‚

Super shots…..particularly like the floral one!…….is this from a terrace of some sort?
FNC and FAO might have to be on my “cheapie from BRS” list

The floral shot is taken from the observation deck.

Thank you all for your kind comments, FNC is certainly a place I would recommend.

    All the best

    Nice Photos!
In a few weeks I’ll be at Faro airport. Do you have any advice on what spots to visit in the morning due to the position of the sun? Also I heard that they change runway’s half way through the day? Is this correct?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

rab these are really wicked shots

can you help me im trying to figure out my camera and the best settings to use on cloudys day and i was wondering the following?

    what ISO is your shots?

    what f-stop?

    and finally your shutter speed?

    thanks rab

Rab, sorry to steal the post.

Rob just remember that in Aperture Priority mode ‘AV’ that the aperture (F Stop) will determine what the shutter speed is. When I shoot in AV mode, I always keep an eye on the shutter speed and then I can adjust the aperture accordingly to get the desired shutter speed. Of course adjusting the aperture will affect the depth of field. These are all things that need to be considered.
When the sun does shine again (IF) then using F8 on a sunny day is usually sufficient to ensure a good shutter speed.

Rab – Personal favourite has to the B767 head on! Nice one

    Rob,
I remember the days of Aer Lingus at Bristol – Personal favourite is the COA!
Some advice if you wish to take it – If you can try and crop your images to a standard 3:2 ratio (1024×683) – As always there are no right or wrongs, but personally I just think your pictures will look better composed. Just my opinion though….

The best picture has to be the second Ryanair and it is good to see that you are using the camera in aperture priority mode.
Shame the weather wasn’t on your side.
    Keep up the good work

Sorry, on another note mate, that Ryanair isn’t half bad considering todays weather & the fact that it hasn’t been through photoshop
So nice one! (Although I don’t like the fact you used AUTO on it πŸ˜‰ )

Keep up the hard work, and it will come. Just give it time.
