I only found out the first 3 parts of the serial no. which I think was JG6** although I may be wrong there. It had gone to Australia and crash landed on an outback airfield post war. Rather than repair they shunted her into a barn where she lay until recovery to England. From the photos a friend showed me she looked like a relatively easy and quick restoration to flying but she is (was?) up for sale.
Mk VIII, Steve? or is does it need to be IX?
There was an VIII for sale last month.
I have heard R4118 probably wont make her first flight until end of July, unfortunate, but who knows it is still not inconcievable that she might just make it to legends in a static capacity.
Heres the BBC link:

Ill see what I can do, not going to July but im happy to let you have them just hope I am allowed to have a look around.

Good luck Olds Cool, its a very tough course. I do hope you get the time to look around, but I dont think you will have much “free” time.
Thanks, I am looking forward to it.
Albermarles aswell towed (297 squadron definately) not sure but possibly from Manston. A fantastic piece of logistics if anyone gets to see a picture of them all hooking up on the runway.
And Odiham was turned into a permanent Airfield in 1937. Opened on 18 October 1937 by General Erhard Milch, Chief of Staff of the Luftwaffe!
That last photo is a bit like Odiham. Total guess but my best bet.
No I am going on a Leadership to Stafford (I totally misread the 1 st post) and should be able to get some pictures whilst on it. It may be difficult but hopefully not impossible. Do you know what else is there? (it is not a million miles off the subject of this thread)
Thanks in advance
They are at stafford. I will be up there in a couple of months and will try (but no promises) to get some photos. I will have a week to do this but if anyone could give me any help of where they actually are and what else is there it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. What else is in the reserve collection?
We have spent most of our time learning exam technique in history. This is of course very important because of the League Tables. We have many lessons on this subject, “you will begin question one ‘From the source, I can infer that…’. For question four your conclusion will start ‘I believe that the statement is to some extent correct because…and incorrect because…'”
In my history lesson no one bar myself could name who was P.M. before Maggie Thatcher (I got stuck at Edward Heath) but we can all do Russian and American leaders till the end of the Ninteenth Century.
British History is forgotten. We did an exercise on the Blitz once but it was only to show how photos could be doctored and then it only lasted 10 or 15 minutes. The Battle of Britain and D-day are not all that is forgotten so is Rorke’s Drift, Trafalgar, Waterloo, The Boer war, Dunkirk, The Spanish Armarda, Agincourt and Crecy. Too many of my peers perhaps only two of those names would ring a bell. It is Disgraceful but they have not taught me any of that and now I only have 2 History lessons left before I am finished for good. I took History for two (possibly three) more years than it is made compulsory by the government.
Condolences to all involved. Very sorry to hear.
Im going on to Stafford for a week in the summer. Is there much else there apart from the spits. I am looking forward to it. I hope I’ll be able to have a look around. Nobody would happen to know where they are exactly?
