Peter, indeed a lovely machine. You beat my Spitfire XIVe RM-797 by one kill. It shot down 1 x Me-262, 1 x FW-190, 1 x Ar-234, 1 x Ju-52 in 1945 while serving with 41 Sqn and flown by Australian Tony Gaze.
Good point….
A real problem with high octane bang juice is the availability of Tetra Ethyl Lead in quantity and fact that it is almost a banned substance in many eco [??] countries like OZ…100LL works fine and keeps the plugs clean if you use reduced boost. We use 44in in the TBM down from 52.5in in the book. At our weights no problem…
I pay AU$1.15 per litre right now..or US$3.10 per USG….
The Avenger burns 300lts per hour in the cruise and a gazilion times that on takeoff etc…
Engines are a bit like colour schemes sir! what does yours have??
I’m rebuilding a Spit XIV and I’ve been bollocked for using some AN hardware etc..OK should I also use 1944 spec oil? I’m happy to see them all rebuilt and flying…a Sea Fury with or without Mr Bristol’s engine is still one heck of a nice plane. PS: One for sale here WITH a Centaurus…
