Born and bred June 26th 1958 in Colchester so I have spent most of my life being bothered by Army helicopters. On the upside it was close to Wattisham during the days of English Electric’s finest and close to B e n t w a t e r s, Woodbrdge and Whethersfield, and Duxford is just under an hour away.
For the last eight years I have been in Rowhedge a small riverside village just south of Colchester.

If you live in the UK in the BBC Look East region, tommorow nights weather with the skinny blonde girl Julie Rienger will be broadcast from the Anchor pub about 800m from my house.

The pub has just been taken over by Kent brewers Shepherd and Neame and a Thames barge is delivering some beer as part of the opening festivities. The “Greta” is one of only two remaining Thames barges ( the other being the Pudge ) still in sail of the many that went to Dunkirk. She was built in 1892 just a few miles further down the River Colne at Brightlingsea, so it’s a bit of a home coming.
The Pudge was alongside the Anchor overnight a couple of weeks ago whilst on a recent charter. She was nearly sunk whilst in convoy in the channel but returned to the beaches three times to bring home over 1000 troops.
The Little Ships website link is below for more details, I’ll try and post a pic of a different type of “veteran” tommorrow, 63 years after her “finest hour”.

“and you complain about the beeb……”
Yes I did ( I believe quite rightly ) and apart from expressing relief that the crew got out ok that’s the only comment I have made however,

Let’s not forget the most important thing is that the guys’ got out in one piece, the second is that the Blenhiem is predominantly also in one slightly bent piece. It could have been so much worse for all concerned.

Lets leave it to those who own, operate and maintain the old girl to decide on her future and the operators official statement and the CAA report to tell us what actually happened.
All this speculation does none of us ( or the reputation of this forum ) any good.

It’s the same silly reason they put an “s” in lisp.

Seriously there are some good points here, if you have got a problem with spelling just tell people, they will usually be very understanding about it.

Good point about not being able to use all that gas even if you wanted to.
I take it you only use gas for hot water and central heating, what make and size (btu) is your boiler ? I have a mate in the trade and we could probably find out what the maximum gas consumption rate is. That might be another bit of ammo for you.

I am so glad you didn’t have a leak, I heard a loud rumble earlier on from the south west but now I’ll put that down to Shoeburyness !!
